The Trump administration on Friday rolled out a hyper-ambitious plan to develop and manufacture hundreds of millions of Covid-19 vaccine doses by the end of 2020, outlining an aggressive process that, if successful, would shatter conventional wisdom about the typical process for developing vaccines for emerging infectious diseases.

At a Rose Garden press conference, the president and his deputies acknowledged their goal, dubbed “Operation Warp Speed,” was lofty. Trump said the project was “risky and expensive.” Moncef Slaoui, the pharmaceutical executive Trump has appointed to lead the initiative, said the goal was “extremely challenging.”

Slaoui said, “Mr. President, I have very recently seen early data from a clinical trial with a coronavirus vaccine,” he said to applause. “These data make me feel even more confident that we will be able to deliver a few hundred million doses of vaccine by the end of 2020.”

Trump unveils audacious plan to develop Covid-19 vaccine by end of 2020

(Slaoui resigned Friday from the board of biotech firm Moderna, one of the companies with the most advanced effort to create a vaccine in partnership with the U.S. government.)

    --

A year ago when a measles outbreak was sickening children in many states Trump said children needed to get vaccinated. “They have to get the shots. The vaccinations are so important,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House. “This is really going around now. They have to get their shots.”

A "few" is generally defined as three. So a few hundred million would be 300 million. The population of the US is 329 million. Looks like Trump intends everyone in the US to get the vaccine. He said the military will help distribute the doses.

If children "have to get their [measles] shots, it's so important", how important will Trump think it is that people get their coronavirus shots? And the military will help distribute the doses.

    Hmmm...that sounds ominous.

President Trump says lot of things. No reason to believe that a COVID-19 vaccine would be distributed any differently than other vaccines, such as the yearly flu vaccine.

Trump has said that he's a war president because of Covid-19. He's said Covid-19 is the invisible enemy. With his re-election chances largely hinging on how he responds and handles the coronavirus challenge, I expect Trump to be hands on and not just his usual bluster.

The distribution of the vaccine will need to be done rapidly and accurately. Trump's already enlisted a four star general to oversee logistics of distribution. He's got defense secretary Mark Esper involved in Operation Warp Speed. The military is already involved.

Once again, Trump is offering hope for the future.

Naysayers look for some way to rob people of the hope he offers, always.

The vaccine is the hope for the future. I applaud the President for fast tracking this. What I wonder about is the number of doses and use of the military to distribute the doses. The number of doses suggests that it is meant for everyone in the United States. Because of this, I wonder if the vaccine will be mandatory, or if it will there will be conditions for accepting it. I don't know why the military is getting involved. Anybody want to speculate why they are going to be involved in the distribution of the vaccine?

I thought Jesus is the only Hope? And when this vaccine kills 3 times more people in the US, because the body does not need an overdose of vaccinations, just like Bill Gates killed millions of lives in Africa, who will be your hope then?

Covid19 is Bill Gates' vaccine sent to everyone in the whole world against their will. It was a test to see who would die and who would not. That millions of older humans died, seems to indicate that Bill Gates population control via a vaccine works.

You all complain that the government over-reacted with a global shut down. Now you want the government to keep over reacting, having no clue what they are doing? Death is a tragedy, but why blame covid19 when it has barely killed a small percentage of humans compared to pro-choice. Why not just choose to get the virus and move on with life. Woman already ruin the reproduction process with artificial processes, why not just go through covid19 and get it out of the way?

God designed a natural way for humans to naturally live for thousands of years. Now we go against logic and trust science to come up with artificial means? We have done it for about 100 years, and now we complain, because science was wrong and made things worse? Really???

Tucker had Dr. Marc Siegel on last night. Love that guy. The vaccine looks very interesting. It's a new technology. All test subjects who took it, regardless of dose, developed antibodies. I don't believe convention vaccines work this well.

I'm not sure how this is different from conventional vaccines, but it looks promising for those in real danger from c19.

That said, kids, we now know, develop antibodies on their own and don't need it. That's what the science says. We need to focus on the elderly. They should have first dibs on this if they want it. Giving it to kids would seem to be waste.

I can't believe I'm going to waste electrons replying to you, but since I started this thread, here goes.

Jesus is the only hope for eternal life. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I don't know where you are getting this stuff about the Covid vaccine killing "3 times more people because they are overdosed on vaccines." ?? I can't even begin to guess what that's supposed to mean.

I missed the part where everyone in the world was vaccinated by Bill Gates. Older people are dying from Covid-19, but not because they were vaccinated.

Too bad Adam wrecked that plan for all of us. Now we have to fight for survival.

Adam did not ruin God’s plan and Will.

Sounds like you need to stop living in the middle of Africa and find a more technologically advanced place to live in??

You might want to review the events in the Garden of Eden and how we are told in Romans that sin, and thus death, came into the world through Adam.

Will, then, did God fail? Because you said, "God designed a natural way for us to live naturally for thousands of years." Since we don't live for thousands of years, something happened to God's design, right?

One of the advantages of living in the middle of Africa is that I don't get much spam in my emails. I get plenty of it right here on BB, though.

God designed us to live forever. Death is the result of sin.

I think the military represents a powerful action of getting the vaccinations done, and fast. Every day of delay means 1,000s of lives. This is an attack (war) on the virus. The military has a lot of great scientist also and if this were a biological attack the military would be very much more involved. You don't really think there is the intention to make this vaccine mandatory do you? Maybe if the Dems were in charge, but common sense tells you that attempt wouldn't even work. No, responsible people will get the vaccine and those that don't it is on them.- Just don't ask me to pay their hospital bills or expect others to to pay their sick leave!

Yet you will. Just like you pay for those who don’t get a flu shot and get the flu or don’t take care of themselves and get diabetes or any number of problems get that might have been avoidable and they end up using medical resources - paid for through private insurance premiums or by taxpayers through Medicaid, Medicare, etc.

Responsible people won't give this to kids, as it poses virtually no threat to kids. It also poses no risk to the vast majority of adults. Only those at risk need it. They should get first dibs. The rest can get what's leftover if they chose.

If this is true, why are we planning on making 300 million doses?

I said "responsible people" - others need not apply. I doubt your view on vaccines and conspiracy theories would change regardless of the threat...

Because there are a ton of people that are going to insist of giving this to their kids and to zero risk people.

I just hope we prioritize seniors and risk groups for a change. What a shame we didn't do this from the beginning.
