But Republicans should have higher standards than the D's
In addition - with the election about 42 days away - would the senate
have sufficient time to confirm a candidate

Then Republicans will lose if they want to posture 'higher standards'. The Democrats will cut their throat. Remember the so called 'nuclear method' of voting for a justice. It was first used by Democrats to force their will. Then the Republicans used it.

You can't play by the rules if the other side doesn't. The stakes are too high.

I don't know if the Senate would have time. But I would go for it if I were them. Nominate and call for a vote.

I agree that the rules have changed forever to dog eat dog. Biden is trying to steal the election with mail-in ballots. It is no telling whom Biden would nominate. Trump should nominate Cruz because he would be easy to confirm.

Cruz is a re-electable republican senator though. Taking him away from that, I wonder who would become a senator, hopefully not from the other side.
Whereas, there are many conservative judges Trump can choose from.

Cruz is saying the court must have a new judge because the election will be contested according to Hillary and the current court is divided 4-4.

I certainly hope Trump can get a conservative in there soon. I wonder if this opening will motivate the right to get out the vote for Trump. I think most people have expected Ginsburg to die seeing all her severe cancer issues, and advanced age, but not like before the election this soon, even though she had been sick for a long time. Imagine if Biden suddenly died before the election.

And the dems are looking to steal the election....so we should give up the reason why some voted for Trump to begin with? 30% of the SC over time have been installed in an election year. The dems are using this to further threaten us with civil unrest. Just another excuse to bring more fear to citizens for control. RBG’s last statement before death was political, not wanting her seat to be replaced by Trump. So if she is political in death, seize the day & replace her. It may be our last chance to retard the drive to one world order.

Yes, and they will probably keep on changing.

I do agree with others that Cruz is more valuable as a Senator and would hate to lose him there. Plenty of other conservative judges. And I think the Senate has the numbers already to confirm, don't they? Unless of course they are some traitor Republicans there.

To confirm, the Republicans would need a minimum of 50 votes, plus the VP. And they could confirm in a lame duck secession shortly after the election. And our new Justice would need to not recluse if the Dems again tried to steal the election.

The usual suspects (Collins, Romney, and Merchowsky) cannot be trusted when push comes to shove.

At the moment The seniority of Cruz is # 63. I'm guessing that after the election - he will move up about 5 spots or so

The dems did not fill it because they were not in control, they were not in control because of Obama’s miserable performance. They would have, if they could have. Not a good reason to not do it now. The way they have treated Trump? No time for Mr. Nice Guy. He/we owe them less than nothing.

    From ABC ‘news’:
Ginsburg's death and what becomes of her seat will certainly become a political battle, much like what happened in the weeks and months following the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016. Scalia's death, which came nine months before the presidential election, became a focal point of that year's election. President Barack Obama attempted to fill the seat, but Republicans in the Senate blocked the appointment.

Just thought of something - suppose Trump does nominate and the Senate quickly confirms B4 the election.
Would the Dems use that to encourage people to put the Senate back in D hands?

The dems will use it whichever way it plays. That’s what they do. We need to confirm, if possible, before the election. The nomination is paramount for a very long time. Let them have their hissy fits now while they already are fomenting, & be done with it.

    body isn't even cold yet

Yeah, that gun-grabber would have gotten through back then if Schumer had been in control in the Senate - these people do NOT play nice and they see any accommodation as a weakness.

And don't forget every one of them voted to impeach Trump over that phone call, every single one. And it looks like the Turtle is going ahead with this, the name I'm hearing bandied about is Amy Barrett, who sailed through her earlier confirmation hearings.

The Democrats knew Ruth was very ill, should have seen it coming, and I don't believe she ever said “My most fervent wish Is that I not be replaced until a new President is installed” - who talks that way on her deathbed? Yet another lie, and now they're actually threatening to riot if Mitch goes ahead with this - too late, that's all they've being doing but they are good at it.

I immediately thought that was a very odd thing to say. Supposedly, her grand daughter made this claim. Just odd, imo.

    Peace to you

    ATTN:

I have just edited a few posts in reference to the late Justice Ginsburg.
Bap Board has a policy of nothing negative of a public person for 30 days following their death.
I have not issued any points at this point. .Effective at the posting of this info -
negative posts WILL be subject to points.
It is NOT too much to ask Christians to show some respect. I realize some will say
that she does not deserve respect. That is where our Christian charity can chime in.
We are able to show charity, even if we think someone does not deserve it.
We have the same situation over on the thread about Jerry Jr..
Instead of wishing Hell upon someone - lets pray that her family may hear the Gospel during
    this time of mourning..
