The main narrative-shattering takeaway researchers arrived at: "Roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease."

Rather than the overwhelming horror stories of normally healthy individuals being admitted with COVID who are soon intubated and put on a ventilator before their body finally succumbs to the virus, there are a lot of people — almost half, in fact — who happen to be in hospitals *with* COVID, but not necessarily *due to* COVID or at risk of dying from the virus. Yes, those tragic situations do still happen, but it's happening less frequently than many seem to want Americans to think.

Instead of each "COVID hospitalization" reported being a life-and-death situation that mandates a drastic reaction, the numbers can come from a number of scenarios. Perhaps someone is getting treatment for cancer and, when admitted, they test positive for COVID but remain asymptomatic, for example. Also included are psychiatric admissions entirely unrelated to COVID.

I don’t know how to tell you that we all know this and have for awhile. I don’t think we were ever under the impression that everyone is going to the hospital and right to intubation or any other doom scenario. The percentage that does have severe cases has been enough to overwhelm hospitals depending where you live.

Usually when I see terms like “bombshell” or “shattering” on a headline it’s from a rag.

Also funny, today we trust Harvard.

    Falsehood.

You are misrepresenting the truth - from the beginning, we have been told that people with co-morbidities are the ones at greatest risk for serious illness and death.

About half of the 2021 Covid hospitalizations were not for Covid. Thus the spike due to the "Delta" Covid was much lower than claimed, and the severity of "Delta" variant was exaggerated. No need to post a smoke screen.

Your statement is misleading. You said:

About half of the 2021 Covid hospitalizations were not for Covid.

Here is what the article actually said:

the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease.

Your statement should, I believe, have been:

About half of the 2021 Covid hospitalizations were not for Covid or were mild cases of covid.

What's more problematic, however, is this statement of yours:

Thus the spike due to the "Delta" Covid was much lower than claimed

On what basis do you draw this conclusion? What was the specific claim that was made and how does it connect to the fact that, yes, about 50% of cases of those hospitalized either had mild cases or were hospitalized for another reason?

My statement was accurate. Are you pretending you do not grasp that half a loaf is less than a loaf? (About half the reported hospitalization due to Covid, including those due to the Delta variant, were actually hospitalized for other reason.)

    No.

Here is what was actually said in the article:

the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease.

Let's do this the hard way.

x = number of hospitalized patients showing up on Covid Dashboards.
y = number of hospitalized patients showing up on Covid Dashboards who were admitted for another reason
z = number of hospitalized patients showing up on Covid Dashboards who had only a mild case.

    Now then, article is claiming that: 0.5 x = y + z

    You are assuming that z = 0.

That is the only way to conclude that "About half the reported hospitalization due to Covid, including those due to the Delta variant, were actually hospitalized for other reason."

No reason to continue Sir, as once a person claims mind reading, he or she is not seeking truth.

If I remember, the Covid relief fund rewarded hospitals for every Covid case they treated. Everyone was tested, even car accident and gun shot victims and were classified as “Covid” cases if positive.

    peace to you

Evasive - the usual "ignore-the-argument-and-appeal-to-your-fantasy-world-view-where-other-people-are-in-darkness-and-you-are-in-light" nonsense.. Your post was misleading - this statement of yours is not supported by the article you referenced:

About half of the 2021 Covid hospitalizations were not for Covid.

They killed my Dad with Remdesivir. He didn’t even have covid when he was admitted. They didn’t even ‘test’ him for a week. They were ready to discharge him. The hospital was basically deserted, after ‘testing’ him, they put him through every high dollar process the second week, & finished with high dollar remdesivir, a Fauci kiss on the way out. Of course his family was unable to kiss him, or even talk to him, he was hard of hearing & couldn’t use the phone. I have nightmares of his last days. He led an honorable, successful, good life. Raised 4 children, married 69 years before Mom passed (at the same hospital). His word was his bond. He always trusted people, I always said, too much. It cost him dearly at times, but he just moved forward. I miss you, Dad.

When a poster disparages they testify to the falsehood of their view.
    My post was crystal.
My statement accurately reflected the article.
Your "taint so" posts are without merit.

What are some of the "other reasons" to admit a person with Covid but not "for Covid?" A protocol? If someone says they have shortness of breath, many hospitals would admit for observation. These hospitalizations would then inflate the hospitalizations due to Covid numbers. Nuff said...

Probably one source is Section 3710 (Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system add-on payment for COVID-19 patients during emergency period), (iv)(I) of the CARES Act passed Spring 2020.
There will be other financial assistance in there for hospitals if anyone is inclined to wade through it, but I think the one above is possibly the most commonly referenced.

Falsehood. You took a story that said this:

the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease.

    ...and misrepresented it as this:

About half of the 2021 Covid hospitalizations were not for Covid.

Your statement clearly misrepresents what the article claimed. And you know this, since you cannot possibly not understand that some of this "half" that you are referring to were indeed in the hospital for covid, albeit for a mild case.

It was widely reported at the time. Do your own research, you’ll remember better.

    Peace to you
