Which versions do Southern Baptist like?

The BFM itself is silent on which versions are "approved."

That said, I suspect the question wants to know what translations are preferred. Here, any major translation would suffice, I propose the following list to help you figure out which ones are most likely:

• Conservative to Evangelical: English Standard Version (ESV), NIV, HCSB (if you went to Dallas Theological Seminary)
  
  
• Moderate to Scholarly: NRSV, RSV
  
  
• Moderate to Gender-inclusively liberal: TNIV
  
  
• Super-traditional: King James Version. Maybe New King James, if they're feeling special.
  
  
• Conservative but Scholarly: The Amplified Bible.
  
  
• When the Preacher wants to make a point: NLT, "The Message"
  

Perhaps more useful would be the ones Baptists would be very unlikely to use:

• New Jerusalem Bible, Duoay-Rheims: perceived as too Catholic
  
  
• New World Translation: restricted to the Jehovah's Witness
  
  
• Makes most conservatives barf: The Living Bible, Readers Digest Condensed, Good News Translation.

Clarifications :

The NIV is not the 1984 NIV. It is the 2011 NIV (on-line since Nov. of 2010). The NIV and TNIV are nearly identical.

The NJ Bible is fine. It's Conservative. It does contain the seven books of the Apocrypha though. However, the 66 books are intact, and the translation compares favorably with the NIV, ESV, NASB, CSB etc.

The NLT is worlds away from The Message. To put the two in the same category is reckless and shows no discernment.

The church my wife and I are members of used the KJV for years, then about 10 years ago went to the HCSB...and now, the CSB...They seem to follow the recommendations of the SBC convention leaders. I personally wish they'd go to the KJV or the NKJV.

I have questioned him in private, and we've talked about it when he came to mow our lawn this past summer. Because he's in his very early 40's, and he has no real background in the subject, he doesn't want to "rock the boat." This is his first church as pastor, and because there are a lot of younger people, at least younger than many of us, there isn't much hope of the church going back to the KJV. I'm in my 60s, and my wife will be 60 this year, and many of the people we associate with at church are in their 70s and 80s (our church is 225+ years old) we're not really in the clique. Many of us older people don't like using the CSB, nor do we like the CCM that is being forced down our throats by the pastors wife, who is currently our "worship leader." We're considering a more conservative/traditional IFB church....maybe go back to Franklin Road.

Some churches l do have 2 services - one for trad - one for CCM - are there enough in your church that would want a Trad music and return to KJV for an earlier service?

No...we only run between 60 and 100 each week. About 40% of that are over 50 years old.

There used to be one in Murfreesboro, but, they closed shop and left. Their building is now an insurance agency! LOL
