I know there are a few who are not willing to say where they went to school. They must be afraid of abuse here? I can't imagine why, We are all nice folks.

Seriously, it seems like most of the threads about BJ here are rather negative. Im not sure why, of course, some people will complain if you hang them with a new rope.

Every member of my church's pastoral staff went to BJU, and plenty of students from our church go there, as well as Maranatha, Cedarville, and Clearwater, it seems to have done OK for them.

 

Don't at least 25% live in the Greenville area?

Sorry for the confussion... I would not recommend Fairhaven, unless you are ready for a "military" style college, many rules, and they have a weight limit/program that you must be involved in. If you do not meet your weekly weight goal, you are given demerits... if you are not your weight goal by graduation... they hold your diploma.

 

I would consider your definition of PCC's position to be KJVO, since their view of preservation has strayed from the traditional view of textual preservation.

I have had friends who attended there, many of whom are now very King James Only, and they have been very open and honest with me about their experiences and the teachings of the school, which they agree with in most cases. It was frightening to me to be honest. The things they have parroted have included many of what you listed as the hallmarks of KJVOism. While not coming right out and claiming reinspiration, claiming only one manuscript or family has been preserved is clearly taught, not merely that it is the best, but the only. You can't have it both ways. Either its the only preserved Word, or it isn't. And they have a real problem with any preacher or teacher who dares to explain a word included in the KJV by using the original languages. They are recent (but not as recent as you) graduates, who did not know there was a KJV controversy when they started attending PCC. I look at the fruit of an institution not just its stated positions, but frankly both of them scare me at PCC in many cases, yet I am still friends with them, we just have had to agree to disagree on some things and leave them alone.

I would possibly agree that the answer may lie somewhere between your viewpoint, and Dr. Bob's but I would have to say it leans more toward his description.

No wonder I am not as well liked as I'd prefer.

People don't like to have to measure up.

I am unsure if that is the real reason why people dislike BJU, but it is a possibility. Most of the refugees I met from there were good people, and actually I have family and plenty of friends who attended there as well.

BJU certainly has a solid academic reputation, and I think accreditation will strengthen that as well, Going through the accreditation process has forced Maranatha to make serious improvements to their programs that were already fairly solid academically, now more so than any other IFB school out there.
