A generous gesture.
If there is any nation on this earth that should be generous, it is Kuwait. -
Carpro,
I find your comment .. interesting.. in a sad way.
Kuwait was invaded by her neighbor and we, along with other nations, stepped in to help her, but why does that make her more... in need of paying us back than places like Japan or Germany or France? -
I find your comment .. interesting.. in a sad way.
Kuwait is an immensely wealthy nation with very few citizens. They can afford to be generous.
Why would you think I meant anything else? -
-
Talk about a conservative version of an entitlement mentality...now that is sad. Hand out and yelling, I want more, I want more...and not only that, but I deserve it. I also note that this money seems to be coming from an Islamic State where many conservatives here seem to think that Muslims hate us. Third, I would note that while yes, Kuwait is wealthy, Japan is not some third world country. Why would you expect more of Kuwait than you would Japan?
Joseph Botwinick -
I am not certain Kuwait would have been liberated without our involvement. I think their support is a genuine display of gratitude for our past support and sorrow for our current losses.
-
You don't really think the U.N. would have taken any concrete action, do you? Their history certainly says a resounding...NO.
But be careful, Ian. To have some expectation of gratitude is...sad? -
Conservative entitlement mentality. The America I grew up knowing didn't do the right thing in the past because they expected anything in return, even gratitude. We did the right thing because it was the right thing to do...that is part of what has made America great. The other part of what makes America great is that we don't sit around with our hands outstretched demanding the rest of the world bail us out of our messes...quite the opposite...we are the ones generally bailing other countries out of messes. Why would you want it to be the other way around? Yes the entitlement mentality that has invaded the conservative movement is sad.
Joseph Botwinick -
Aw Joseph, get off your soapbox. :D
You're starting to repeat yourself. -
As soon as you get off yours and quit with your entitlement mentality. It is not becoming a conservative. :D

Carpro,
I didn't realize you were an entitlement liberal. My apologies for mistaking you for a conservative. Carry on with your liberal entitlement mentality.
Joseph Botwinick -
I agree with Joe and Ian, especially Ian. Gratitude is a good thing, at whatever level. Yes, it was fitting that they do so, but we shouldn't be demanding more but should ourselves be appreciative. I just hope that none of the vermin who are looting and demanding more in New Orleans get a penny!

Did you misunderstand my post or was I not clear? I DO NOT believe Kuwait would have been liberated with out the leadership and direct involvement of the United States. -
No. I understood you and agree. I apologize if I didn't state that clearly. I tried to say the same thing , just in a different way.
-
All right Joseph. I don't want America standing there with her hand out. The mood struck me that what we have done for these Muslim countries, is what is responsible for their material wealth. I concede that it does not represent my fully thought out sentiment. Have you ever said something without fully thinking it out? Unfortunately I seem quite adept at it.
-
I do it all the time...and I think I also understand the sentiment also.
