10"But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but he Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God."
Christians have the Holy Spirit within them and the Holy Spirit guides them.
Do you think that the Holy Spirit guides individuals differently about the same scripture or situation in their lives?
A very simple example of something that is not in the Bible: Television
Does the Holy Spirit tell some Christians that it is wrong to own or watch television while He does not tell other Christians this?
If you have discussed this before, would you please provide a pointer to the thread?

I've wondered the same things myself. I don't know the answer, however.

I too have wonder the same question. I know that the example that you gave about the TV is a personal conviction. If you feel that the TV is hendering your walk with the Lord, then by all means get rid of it, but some have a TV and it does not come between them and God. But your question is if I'm not mistaken, is if the Holy Spirit tells me not to watch TV, why not others? Maybe for this example, one can handle it and the other can't.

I think Paul addressed some of this issue in 1 Cor. 8 about causing another to stumble.
God gives us everything we need to live each day for Him and to carry out His commands.
Romans 12:6-8, "Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." -
Thankful: You have asked a very good question.
We have the same Spirit, so why are we all over the board on Calvinism, eschatology, bible versions and many other points?
I can only say what I think.
My first thought is the fact that God did not create robots. Robots follow a set program and have no freedom to vary from it. God has given us the freedom so that person A will see things differently than person B, even though the exact same thing is being viewed by both of them.
My second thought is on God's Book: The Bible. It is , as a well known pastor has said, simple enough for a child to understand and complicated enough for Phd's to debate forever. Why? Well, let's take any other book; you can read it and be an expert on it, answer any question about it. God's word is one that you never know everything about it. Why? The above mentioned pastor has what may be the answer. God wants for you to never stop reading His Bible. He wants you to keep searching, keep learning and growing. We are, after all, not God Himself, but His children and children need to keep learning, asking questions, searching for answers and growing.
Just my thoughts. -
Thank you Brother Watchmen, lots of good
words to ponder upon. -
Thank you for your comments. It certainly helps me place this in perspective.
We are all different. God gave us certain gifts and choices.
I just used television as an example. Television is not bad, but some of the programs are. We have to choose what we watch, what we let out children watch and all this through God's guidance.
I think it is good that we have so many different opinions on this Board. It makes one stop and think and search the Bible for answers.
It helps us strengthen our faith and trust in our Lord and Savior.
Thank you again for discussing this with me. -
This is a good question Betty. I sometimes wonder why a person might be so very convicted about television and yet 'live' on the internet. Also, people are convicted to not go the movie theaters but rent movies at Blockbuster type places. Our Blockbuster has 'gay' magazines for free along with the home finder and auto trader type magazines. Hollywood gets money whether you go to a movie theater or rent either on the satellite or from a store!
I'm convicted about not drinking. I think the Bible tells ME not to drink ONE DROP. That's MY conviction. I think the Bible says NO DIVORCE. I could never sit under a woman preacher or in a church with women deacons. Those are MY convictions but it's not MY place to convict you! The Holy Spirit speaks to each of us and it's up to each of us to hear what He is saying to US.
Good points all!
