I have recently read a small work about the life of Bunyan and I became interested in the history of the Free church/nonconformist in England during the 16th & 17th centuries.
Can anyone recommend some good material about the history and influence of such?
Thanks,
Max

An old reference is Daniel Neal's two-volume A History of the Puritans, which was first published in 1732. You might be able to find it through interlibrary loan. It's available on the Web at the UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, but reading is a bit inconvenient. A few chapters also are available as text files at
PROTESTANT REFORMATION.
A more recent work is Champlin Burrage's two-volume The Early English Dissenters in the Light of Recent Research, 1550-1641, which may be available through interlibrary loan. It was last updated in 1967.
Some interesting information on the dissenters (which includes everything from Calvinist Puritans to Socinians, Quakers and Fifth Monarchists) is available on the Web at EXLIBRIS . The listings are uneven in quality but worth a look.
