I am looking for approximately 100-200 of the old edition of this hymnal for my church. I have searched the web but have not been able to find any. I have put out emails to a lot of the churches in the Indianapolis area but have come up short still. Does anyone have any suggestions?
My problem with the 72 SSS&H is its Silent Night doesn't have the same words as the standard version.
Dr. Rice (or someone else) de-RCCed it.
At least, that's my recollection.
What happened was that in that and several other songs, one of the editors (I'm not telling who ;) ) did some historical research and wanted to go back to the original words. Quite a few of the hymns and Gospel songs we sing have been altered in one way or another down through the years. However, since we are so used to the revised versions, the original ones may seem strange.
Yep, they live a couple of hours north of us, preparing to learn the language and work in our friend's church. Good man! I've corresponded with him but not met him yet. Looking forward to that! He helped me out on my NT translation project with some resources. :type:
I hope both you and he check out my thread on the Evangelism/Missions forum here about "Missionary Stories of Souls Saved."
That just means some on got too efficent for their own good.
In our hymnal I count three tunes for "All Hail the Power."
Would it have killed that editor to include at least the words to the standard version?
There I was about to sing Silent Night in English at the Russian church I attend in Sacramento, when what did I discover . . .:tonofbricks:
