Last year was the earth's hottest in 136 years of record-keeping, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Wednesday.

"Globally averaged temperatures in 2015 shattered the previous mark set in 2014 by 0.23 degrees Fahrenheit (0.13 Celsius)," NASA reported. "Only once before, in 1998, has the new record been greater than the old record by this much."

2014, the previous hottest year, had an average global temperature of 58.24 degrees Fahrenheit. That was already 1.24 degrees above the 20th century average..

It was mild, and wet, here also. El Nino weather pattern was just forming about that time. It makes for mild summers AND winters here, along with more precipitation.

Yeah, the winters haven't been too bad either, now that you mention it.

Now, the summer of 1998 almost killed me, but that was the first year that I had come down off the mountains and lived/worked on the coastal plain full time.

I've been paying attention to El Nino AND La Nina for going on three decades now. El Nino is GOOD for crop growing here as long as your ground drains good, but La Nina always brings drought. 99-2000 was bad drought conditions.

Lol, I helped harvest plenty for the parents, but I'm not too big of an onion fan, and they never appealed to me.

-29 was the coldest I ever experienced back home. Walked to the bus stop and went to school like any other day.

Around here they cancel school for anything over 40 flakes per acre. Roflmao

-30F for me. I HAD to go in to work. 76 Chevy step side pick-up truck w/positive traction rear end and studded tires w/ bed loaded with old car batteries for weight; wouldn't start. Remembered a trick I seen Dad do when I was a kid; filled a galvanized oil change pan with coals from the wood stove and scooted it right under the oil pan of the engine and let it warm things up (Dad built an actual fire under his truck engine). Worked like a charm. State police had closed the interstate hwy but I went on anyway with no problem.

Well that settles it for me. We need to cull the human population down to about 500,000. Shut down all energy producing plants, and return to the times of Abraham. No cars, phones, hospitals, United States, and no white privilege, and especially no Liberals. All blacks and dark skinned people will have to go, sorry your skin attracts more heat.

Or we could wait to see how this year is, after all this might end up being the coldest year on record.

I was on a glazing job in Manchester New Hampshire one winter and it got down to -40 for a whole week. Worked outside installing a green house on a "super stop and shop" all week long. I could work outside for 20 minutes then had to go stand by the kerosene heater for 30 minutes to thaw my hands.

My buddy caught his leg on fire standing to close. Everyone had a big laugh but him.

Had a seven hour drive to get back home on Friday. Got the old Ford 1 ton van started and pulled into the gas station. Filled up both tanks got an extra large hot coffee and pulled out of the parking lot.

No heater fan! Seven hours without heat.

It had warmed up to -3 by the time I got home. Spent the next three days on the couch under a pile of blankets.

I quit glazing soon after that and found myself a nice warm office job way down south in the land of cotton.
