Salty, my friend, the 1984 is a reference to the book 1984 by by George Orwell. If you have not read it I suggest you do so. It will be a quick read. The book was published in 1949. Orwell also wrote Animal Farm. This is another book everyone should read.

    The lines:

    "War is peace.
    Freedom is slavery.
    Ignorance is strength."

are direct quotes from the book.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Parents need to know that 1984 presents an unblinking portrait of life lived under constant surveillance and stands as one of the great dystopian satires of the 20th century. Author George Orwell also wrote Animal Farm, a satirical allegory about the abuse of power.

Yes, Orwell created the word and concept of "doublethink."

"Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them."

This is a direct quote from the book.

Doublethink was exhibited by the US military officer who during the Vietnam War said something like, "That village is friendly, but we must destroy it before it becomes an enemy village."

And I would add, you can't describe Animal Farm as merely an allegorical tale of the abuse of power. It's a direct link to the Soviets, their revolution and evolution under Stalin.

And in 1984, O'Brian gives us the history of Ingsoc, or English Socialism. He says the Soviets and Nazis failed by thinking that their total control of power was a temporary means of enacting an earthly paradise. Ingsoc, on the other hand, sees power as an ends, not a means.

Yes, it is and that is why it was banned in Communist countries.

    You are right.

He also said: The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

If his fiction wasn't enough to have him declared subversive by the Soviets, Homage to Catalonia would have done it by itself.

The real tyranny right now is among Dems, for if Jesus Himself present the case for any program, they would see Him as not being qualified!

I think the Republicans have done a great deal to harm Christianity through their hypocrisy. A Republican court passed Roe vs. Wade. That was in 1973 almost 45 years ago. If the GOP were serious about outlawing abortion don't yopu think they could have done that in 45 years? The answer is they (GOP reps in government) don't want to change their abortion law. It has given them the unthinking support of the Christian Right (which is neither) for a long time.

The Christian right support the unborn, against Gay marriages, against Trans gender laws, against Govt taking money and re allocating it, against allowing terrorists to come in, so what is unbilical about those positions?

Taking money for health insurance away from the needy to spend it on war is unbiblical. Discrimination and rejection of a large group of people because of their religion in unbiblical. Jesus talked to the Samaritan woman at the well and told the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritans were a mixed race having different religious views. They were hated by most Jews and Jews would go a long way out of their way to avoid traveling through their land. The Biblical view on Government spending depends on what you're spending it on. Spending it on needless wars and torture, and building weapons of war is unbiblical. Spending it to help the poor is Biblical. Spending it on diplomacy and talk between enemy nations to avoid war is Biblical. (Blessed are the Peace-makers.). I don't support funding for large scale abortion but do support it in the case of the mother's life being in danger or rape/incest. What's the difference between killing the unborn and killing people by taking away their health care or killing people in wars that are not absolutely necessary (Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq)? What's Biblical about cutting vital resources needed by senior citizens like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security? I don't support gay marriage. But I was really asking why do Republicans not take responsibility for passing Roe vs. Wade and then doing nothing to change it in 45 years? That's hypocrisy.

Liberaism denies right to life, advocates ungodly alternate life styles, tries to have a socialism economy, tries to have God taken out of the public square, so whats attractive for a Christian in it?
