Several agreed with this in another thread:
"People these days don't know how to paint. I don't know why people can't paint like they used to; years ago, people could paint to where it looked just like a photograph. That's how you know it's a good painter, when they can paint so good, that it looks just like it was took with a camera."
So, how refreshing to see this in the news:

New Quayside Gallery art show features 9 artists with ties to Pensacola Christian College
“Celebration of Light,” a new art exhibit at Quayside Gallery, features nine artists linked by their naturalistic styles and their background at Pensacola Christian College.
The exhibit’s anchor is Brian Jekel...who teaches art at Pensacola Christian College...Jekel has also illustrated more than 1,200 Bible paintings for Abeka Books, a Christian-based curriculum published by PCC.
The show was organized by Crystal Stevens...“It occurred to me that there are so many extremely talented artists that do not show their work locally, or at all....It’s really an honor to be able to introduce these artists to Pensacola,” Stevens said.
Mitch Mann earned a degree in commercial art from PCC in 1984....“Representational art is basically attempting to record on paper or canvas what we see under the light provided,” he said. “It’s trying to speak the truth in your artwork."
