Years ago a friend told me of her reaction upon receiving a letter telling her that her son has been killed in Normandy, WW II.
Here is a poem I wrote about her. With sorry for Ruby Hoover and her son, a West Point graduate.
A Mother On the Loss of Her Son At War
She read the letter slowly,
Lay it down, for it was holy.
Walked to the meadow, as in a dream,
Sunk to her knees, and began to scream.
