A plane is down in the Hudson River - a commercial jet

The latest news I have says they were pulling passengers out the door into the frigid waters, and they were being picked up by surrounding boats.

Can't imagine being in that water when it is -30c here.not that far from NYC.

I am watching the scene on the telly now....All passengers and crew are fine. It was a flock of geese that took out both engines, but the pilot did an amazing job of landing the plane in the Hudson River.

A big round of applause to the N.Y.C. rescue squads. They prove once again they are the best.

Kudos to the pilot as well, for being able to put that thing in a safe place.

It looks to be a miracle.

I'm in NY (Long Island so about 30 miles away) and it's on all of our news right now.

The water is in the low 40s right now. The air was around 22 degrees. The ferries and Circle Line were RIGHT there and actually turned the plane (from the reports I'm getting) to try to decrease the amount of water running into the plane.

For that pilot to have gotten that plane down as he (and his co-pilot) did is amazing. It was under 3 minutes from the double bird strike and burn out to the landing in the water. That there are no fatalities is a miracle.

That had to be some great pilot. They said he landed the plane very smoothly on the river which kept this from being worse then it was.

The pilot also managed to keep the nose up after dropping the remaining power in the engines. That is a miracle in itself. This is what kept the plane from sinking almost instantly. The water was up to the windows even with that.

Cheers to all the crew, the calm of the passengers and the rescue crew around the river.

It seems everyone did what they were supposed to do:

What makes this a miracle is that nothing under God's heaven happens without his knowledge.... and that means .....in his plan there are no 'coincidences'.......... like the timing and recognition and response to the engine failure and the position of the geese that caused it; also the positions of the boats and the openness on the water to land.

God be praised!!!!!!!!!
