Should we mention that Ga was founded by convicts? I wonder what religion they were?

Why is that "immaterial" in regard to the OP?

As far as I'm aware, the First Amendment to the US Constitution has never been modified or amended in any way. And the question was about 'state churches' as well. Since 4 states did have official state churches, at the time of the adoption of the Bill of Rights, a state church does not in and of itself 'violate' the Constitution, I suggest.

But I would suggest your allegation that "some southern states have de facto Baptist governments" is on very 'shaky' ground, however.

New Yorks State has the Eastern Bluebird as the Official State bird
does that mean I cannot have another species of bird a a pet?

NY has the Rose as the State Flower
Does that mean I must give a rose to my wife

NY has the Apple as the State Fruit
Then why do grocery stores sell other kind of fruit

    Just saying.....

Salty, the First Amendment is applied to the States because of selective incorporation of essential features of the Bill of Rights through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
