    From a UPI article in 1985, included snapshot of Jesse Jackson laying hands on fellow Baptist politi-pastor Jerry Falwell Sr.

    "Falwell even invited the Rev. Jesse Jackson to speak at Thomas Road....Two years ago, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., delivered an address to Liberty University"

    I think their views on Israel confirm they are deceived. And any politician aligned with them is extremely dangerous.

    It is my understanding that Carter withdrew from the S.B.C. because it was not "gay friendly." For that reason alone, he shouldn't have been invited.
    I realize that we aren't talking about having them preach in the pulpit but Christian university officials need to consider the activist mentality of many liberal government leaders before inviting them to address the student body. Remember how Paul confronted Peter and refused to allow him to promote Judaising Christian believers on his turf?

    If an institution offers an education in a Christian environment, then it would seem that the officials there have a responsibility to screen out any speaker who would promote an agenda that is contrary to the Christian faith.

    Dont know about being happy - but according to this article - Carter did not leave due to the Homosexual issue. - rather he left due to the BF&M 2000 - which declares that women are not to be pastors. Click here for link

    I must have gotten the facts all wrong, Salty. I do know that Carter's pro homosexual stance puts him at odds with most every Christian institution in the country.

    So far as I know, Carter's home church is still SBC, but clearly aligned with the liberal CBF contingent that is still active within the demomination.

    Yes, they are still in the SBC- but as you mentioned - also aligned with the CBF
    Jimmy Carter often teaches Sunday School there
    Here is the History of Marantha Baptist
    The one thing the link does not mentioned - they split from Plains Baptist Church in 1977

    As a parent, I would encourage my child to attend a conservative leaning Christian college/university because the indoctrination would likely be more in keeping with my convictions.

    [Pro 22:6 KJV] 6 Train up(H2596) a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

    The KJV translates Strong's H2596 in the following manner: dedicate (4x), train up (1x).

    While I disagree with indoctrination, I do believe we are to impart to our children critical thinking skills within a Christian context.

    That is something I liked about Liberty Theological Seminary. Christians enter with a specific statement of belief and are free to explore beliefs within that context. No indoctrination. Last I heard schools like Dallas Theological Seminary are along the same line.

    The reason I prefer teaching critical thinking skills within a particular Christian context is it fosters genuine belief rather than a type of brainwashing by disallowing legitimate consideration of opposing views (again, within a particular Christian context). Indoctrination leaves Christians holding other people's beliefs as their own.

    So to you, having a non-Christian guest speaker would be the same as having a permanent non-Christian instructor. Do have have your understanding correct?

    I think What Jon is saying is that he would not object to a Moron or JW to speak as a guest on a one time basis
    But I certainly would not want them to be an on staff instructor/professor.

    I would mind. They are outside a Christian context.

    I would not mind a Mormon speaking about public service or law, or other professions, to a university but I would object to a Mormon teaching at a Christian seminary.

    For example, I would not mind RC Sproul or JI Packer (if they were alive) speaking at Liberty seminary. But they are not qualified to teach there because they are not Baptists. I would not oppose Gordon Fee as a speaker, but he is Assembly of God and should not teach there. But their ideas are not outside a general Christian context and many Baptists could share many of their beliefs.
