I cannot speak to your anecdotal example. It is clear that the desire to avoid titles shows the problem with humility and authority in our society today. If there wasn't then just who would be against it? It is easy to reduce it to a cultural thing. But the real cultural issue isnt titles but problems with authority.

Well, that certainly is one opinion.
My opinion is that titles and respect have nothing to do with each other.
Neither of us have a Biblical basis for our opinion, so they are just that, opinions.

Considering that the scribes and Pharisees addressed Jesus as "Rabbi," what does that tell you as to whether such 'propriety' is respect, or whether it's hypocrisy?
