African-Americans are the most religiously devout racial group in the nation when it comes to attending services, praying and believing that God exists, according to a recent profile.

Compared to the rest of the U.S. population, which is generally considered highly religious, African-Americans engage in religious activities more frequently and express higher levels of religious belief, Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life highlighted in a report released in time for Black History Month.

The center's U.S. Religious Landscape Survey, conducted in 2007 on more than 35,000 people, found that 79 percent of African-Americans say religion is very important in their lives while 56 percent of all U.S. adults said the same. Even among African-Americans who are unaffiliated with any particular faith, 45 percent of them say religion is very important compared to 16 percent of the religiously unaffiliated population overall.

Among the various racial and ethnic groups, African-Americans are the most likely to say they belong to a formal religious affiliation. An overwhelming 87 percent of African-Americans identify with a religious group, according to the U.S. Religious Landscape Survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life.

Following close behind are Latinos, with 85 percent of its population associating with a religion. In comparison, 83 percent of the overall U.S. population report affiliation with a religion.

Nearly six out of ten African-Americans (59 percent) say they belong to a historically black Protestant church, according to the study. The next most popular affiliation is Evangelical Protestant churches (15 percent).

Slightly more than one out of ten (12 percent) say they are unaffiliated to a religious group.

Well this particular "most religiously devout racial group" voted overwhelmingly for Obama - the radical pro-abortion - leave the survivors on the dirty linen pile to die - candidate.

I guess that it depends on your definition of "religously devout".:tear:

This "most religiously devout racial group" also has the highest number of abortions and "fatherless" (statistically 60%) homes.

" In America today, almost as many African-American children
are aborted as are born. A black baby is three times more likely to be
murdered in the womb than a white baby. "

I'm not interested in one's religious devotion no matter what his or her skin color is. Religion is a man made entity. How many are committed to Christ and live out that commitment? Now, that I'm interested in.

most religiously devout racial group
What religion is that? Or is it all religions? Devout muslims, hindus, christians, what?

believing that God exists
which includes muslims, JW's, and Mormons.

unaffiliated with any particular faith
Religion is important to them, but not important enough to participate in it, be a part of any one particular religion.

If this is what religious devotion looks like, leave me out. There's no Christ likeness in it.

I agree, who cares of about religion, what about Christ.

I know you guys don't want to hear this but neither abortions or fatherless children have anything to do with faith and I know God still hears their prayers. There is only one unforgivable in and it isn't abortion.

Huh? since when does direct disobedience to the Word of God not have anything to do with faith?

You do bring up a good question though. Does God hear the prayers of His children who are living in sin? If I willingly pay for an abortion this morning, will God answer my prayers for my needs tonight?

Back to the OP though, I am part black and in my opinion most blacks that I know practice a religion based more on superstition than the Bible.

The Black African churches will soon be sending missionaries abroad to evangelize the free world. Amazing.

It is the Black churches of Africa which has forced the Anglican white churches to do something about ordaining gay men and women to the ministry. Amazing.

In our land, there are as many failures amongst White parishes as Black parishes.

The only sin in scripture which is unpardonable appears to be the sin against the Holy Spirit.

Cheers,

I hate to have to say this, but it is true - the four worst hypocrits I know of, hands down, are four black people that I work with. This has nothing to do with those black people I know that are sincere Christians, but there seems to be more acceptance of crude and downright immoral behaviour amongst "black" churches.

There, I said it. Now go ahead and :tonofbricks:

YOu are right.. we don't want to hear excuses for sin from people who supports sin... God doesn't want to hear it either.

Faith produces fruit...

No matter what color someone is.

But if people list Wright, or Jackson, or Sharpton, or TD Jakes as role models.. they are following false leaders and will not produce true fruit...

Just wax fruit...

It looks like the real thing, but take a bite, and it is all air inside!

Well, the Bible says "faith without works is dead." So there you go.

Yea and what is it "you guys" don't want to hear? And what does that mean?

Are you implying that abortion and fornication are acceptable sins because they are forgivable?

To me, this thread is irrelevant. Unlike our government, God doesn't give us a questionnaire with a box to mark our racial heritage.

I've been in predominantly black churches in which God is moving powerfully, and I've been in others that were a political wing of the Democratic party. (just as with some predominantly white churches).

I know that many predominantly black churches in this area struggle with not having enough men to lead and serve.

Fortunately for our church, we are "mutts." Our church is integrated, and our ethnic status takes a backseat to our spiritual status--which makes all of us saved folk brothers and sisters. I almost teared up Sunday, thinking about this...on a given Sunday, our church:
  • Worships in three languages: English, ASL, and Spanish.
  • Has black, white, hispanic, asian, and others worshiping together.
I've never been a big fan of describing a group's spiritual condition, when the only qualifier was the group's ethnicity. Too many exceptions. Too many variables. Too many opportunities for folks to overgeneralize.

Jesus didn't leave one breed of sheep to look for another...he left the 99 to look for the 1. Since He viewed them individually, I'll attempt to view folks on an individual basis.

By the way...yet another reason to do what I do, and NEVER put your ethnicity on any survey (especially government). If the survey requires something to be marked, I either put "other," "None of the above," or "Eskimo/Inuit."

That'll teach 'em.

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Now to all the others who questioned my post, all I am saying is there is far more to faith and a right relationship with God than saying I supported a pro-life candidate and that is the what "you guys" don't want to hear. It is clear many hear confirm their Christianity and assure their walk with God based on which candidate they voted for (acts and not faith).

Salvation...

Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

And as far as the works for faith...

Mt 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Somewhere in here I missed the part where he said you voted for the pro-life candidate but I'm sure it's number one on His list. So to say the black Church is less spiritual or Godly because they voted for a pro-choice candidate or because they have a large percentage of fatherless children is placing your own judgment on God's word. I suspect it means God isn't through with them yet.

Evidently skin color transcends Christian principles.

Confirm our faith...... no. But knowingly voting for a pro abortion President is a symptom of a serious problem. Based on some of your recent posts i would suggest you respond to the conviction of your heart on this issue.

Symptom of a serious problem. Do you have scripture for that or is this just your assessment?

By the way, there is no black church or white church, there is only one Church Jesus is coming back for and it is the one without spots etc... The last I read you don't have to be pro-life to be in it.
