Yeah, they shouldn't have given those handouts to the Pilgrims - lousy freeloaders!

I just read a fascinating article in National Geographic about Jamestown and the early Indian population across North America.
It seems that the Indian population had been greatly reduced long before the settlers from Jamestown arrived in 1607 because of the march of Cortez sometime in the 1500's.
It seems he and his men spread some pretty serious diseases with the animals that were following them, killing many native Americans.
Also, it seems many of our ancestors from these early colonies did not live up to the agreements made with the Indians, like land and property rights.
It is a very well written article about the trade and interaction between the colony and the Indian tribes.
Anyone who gets a chance should read it.
