    ON a very serious note: my only concern is that 4 years ago several Republicans said they would not make any confirmation in an election year- so they are break a promise. But Trump was not involved in that in 2016 - but I do want to see a good conservative on the high court

    Personally, I think the nomination should have waited until after noon on January 20, 2021; but since President Trump was determined to make a nomination and the GOP-controlled Senate was determined to confirm his nominee before Election Day, I wanted him to nominate the person I wanted on SCOTUS...and he did so.

    The Reps have clearly laid out the case for nominating and confirming before the election. The precedent is rock solid, and the Dems are the very ones who made it procedurally possible.

    Republicans never said this. The precedent rule is, the Senate CAN delay during an election year. It is not mandatory. They have the choice and in 2016 they thought they should wait. Dems have always had the same philosophy. When a Republican is president, they delay, when a dem is president they confirm. Ted Cruz laid this out nicely.

    “Elections have consequences.” This is the key right here:

    "The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president," McConnell said.​

    The American people did elect a new president, and from the opposite party, and kept a Senate majority to insure filling any and all vacancies. The mandate is clear and unmistakable.

    Trump and the Reps should fill those vacancies with appropriate judges and justices until the inauguration of a new president, preferrably in a little over four more years.

    I suppose the informal rule should be if an opening happens AFTER election day - and an opposing party wins - and based on the make up of the new Senate - I would say wait- because by the time a nomination is made - it would be Christmas time - and we all know nothing happens - other than a dire emergency - (think 7 Dec 41) and then on 2 Jan - the new Senate is seated. Or just pass a law that a SC justice cannot die between election day and 2 Jan.
    Hey, a few years ago, The Syracuse city council passed a resolution outlawing snow.

    The plots............. (extending the lockdowns, to facilitate the mail in fraud, to allowing genocide, & anarchy, to interfering on Google, FB, Twitter, & MSM, with the ability to express ideas, & even news, all brought by the Soro’s left)...........to turn the election into a state of turmoil, when the dems are already encouraging blood in the streets, make this a time when it is imperative to have a SC that is able to make a decision. 8 is an even number. That won’t work. The dems are responsible for all of the reasons that this is happening, from the senate vote rules, to the anarchy. No wonder Trump is just a little hot right now. I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you aren’t mad right now, you might not be breathing. We are headed into very dangerous waters, we need a full SC, & one that will follow the Constitution.
