It can be useful to stay informed about the songs in popular music that don't just sing about an ungodly lifestyle, but outright attack God or Christianity or God's word. Awareness of this modern music can be helpful when talking to young people and non-Christians about certain artists' messages and cultural influence, when defending the faith when the opportunity arises, and when witnessing to certain groups.
Many are already familiar with Jay Z's rap lyrics "Jesus can't save you, life starts when the church ends" in his duet with Alicia Keys, "Empire State of Mind," which came out a few years ago.
The most anti-God song I've heard is still "Dear God" by XTC, but that song is 25+ years old now, from the 80's New Wave era.
But today I ran across a popular British performer who is trying to break into the US market with performances on The Tonight Show, etc. He goes by the name Mika. His song "Origin of Love" has the following verse.
"Like stupid Adam and Eve they found their love in a tree
God didn't think they deserved it
He taught them hate, taught them pride
Gave them a leaf, made them hide
Let's push their stories aside
You know the origin is you"
The song of course teaches that man is the origin of love, rather than God.
If anyone else is aware of pop or relatively mainstream songs whose lyrics directly attack God or His Word, please post. Thank you.
