Having been a pastor for over 30 years, and having been raised on gospel quartet and church hymnals, I haven't been exposed to much else. My wife likes some of the modern gospel contemporay.
Music experts, I'm just wondering if Satan has his brand of music? Would it be accepted in the church today?
Please help so I can help my youth and young people develope discernment.
Thanks.

HI Rufus, Here's a link to a webpage that has lots of writings about music and some lyrics too. There's lots on contemporary and hard rock Christian music too. Also, game reviews, movie review, etc.

Why are you asking that question to people you don't even know on a message board? Look for it in the Bible. I cannot recall a verse of scripture which says Satan has 'his' type of music, let alone a description of just what that music is. If it is not there, what reason is there to believe it exits?

The Bible says when we get saved we are to come out of the world. We are to abstain from worldly things. Does it apear worldly? DO the people singing it make godly statements? Do they look worldly, talk worldly, act worldly?
ANd the next test would be WWJD. What would Jesus do when he heard some of the "New" music? Would you like for the Lord to return with you listening to such?
Dosn't the Bible say something about praiseing Him with Psalms and spiritual hymns? OH, i agree some music is of a spirit alright...just not of the same spirit that dwells in the believer.
Rock music. Is that stuff godly? Would you mix it with "Christian" lyrics? How can God and the devil be part of the same thing?
I still think the old way works just fine. IMO, I'm against the CCM movement. If I ever hear it, I just want to cringe. Give me the old paths anyday!
Do I believe there is a such things as Satan's music? Well of course. He's out to get any and all he can. The Bible describes him as a lion seeking whom he may devour.
Does it get in the churches? I believe so.

I've asked several people who call contemporary music "worldly" what "worldly" is and not one of them can tell us.
I have no problem with Jesus knowing that I listen to Jimmy Buffett, Little Feat, Buddy Miller, etc.
The problem is, there's no Biblical definition of these things that precludes rock or contemporary music.
Furthermore, yes, God can use the things of the Devil to bring about His will.

If the argument is that it is hard to define what "worldly" is and therefore justify that any kind of music is okay, is to ignore the warnings of the Lord that there is such a thing as "the world" which we are to avoid, and even count as an enemy!
Anyway, here's my definition of what "worldly" is:
"John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."
The world will hate Christ and everything He stands for. If the world embraces it, it is not of God. Examples i can think of, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant. If they can make it to the Top of the Pops, something is wrong because the world would love its own.

"Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
The Bible has much to say about the world, its devilish control, system and philosophy. And how we as Christians are to be separated from it and know where we stand in the world. In the world but not of the world
"Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."
with all due respect, in all likelihood, if one is not living a separated life, one will not understand the meaning of the above verses.
This i say from personal experience. THe previous church i went to never preached separation. "Be ye not conformed to this world" was a verse i knew in my head but it never occured to me how it is to be practised in a practical way.
Well, i've not stepped into a movie theatre or a bar for almost a decade now. I know what Harry Potter and Decaprio and Charmedv and whatever else the world has as its playthings are about, as "head knowledge" but i'm not "partaking" in the pleasures thereof.
Sincerely,

I agree with Alcott - I don't know of any Biblical reference to "Satan's music". Therefore, in my view, we cannot say unequivocally that any kind of music (NOT lyrics, but the actual music) is satanic.
That being said, I will let you know that for me, country & western is the one kind of music that makes me cringe every time I hear the sound - let alone the lyrics about "cheatin' hearts" and "done me wrong"! If it were my decision, I would ban it ALL as being from the devil (just kidding, folks!). And seeing as how I live in the backwoods of the Missouri Ozarks, you know how much of it I have to listen to......
All joking aside, I have yet to see anyone bring up a point I often ponder. When the followers of Jesus sang their praises - what type of music do you think they sang? My guess is that it was the currently popular style of their era, among others. And how much would you bet that the Pharisees were fuming and snorting about "that devil music" they were singing!
Any song that praises our Lord and His greatness meets the Biblical standard, since style is not specified. We can say whatever we want about "being in the world but not of it" but this was not specifically directed at music; rather, it is intended to show us that even while we have to live here, we should have that something "different" about ourselves as a person that makes the world want what we have! Like joy, peace, ..... well, you know what I am talking about.
Now, if you want to talk about God's music - bring on the classical!

Can you imagine playing R&B or jazz to a group of soldiers before they go to war?
 -
So music (minus the lyrics) affects our spirits. -

;)
There are many things that God has to say about music and we just have to search out the heart of God on the matter. -

You've said that rock music is bad, yet you haven't demonstrated how.
Con Funk Shun, The Isley Brothers, The J.B.'s, Fatback Band, War, Slave, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, P-Funk All Stars, The Ohio Players, The Gap Band.
I can definitely see our Marines taking Bahgdad while George Clinton's "I Pledge Allegiance to the Funk" plays in the background.
By the way, I saw George Clinton here a couple of months ago. Great show. If you ever get the chance to see him, by all means, go.
I can also see playing Gustav Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War" to soldiers or better yet, play it from the helicopter the way Lt Col William "Wild Bill" Kilgore did in "Apocolypse Now".
That was the reason Charlie don't surf.
(yeah, I know he played "Ride of the Valkyries")
Jesus, Paul and Timothy all mentioned it. Not to mention the dozens of times it's mentioned in the OT.

Just for the sake of argument, let's all assume there is such a thing as satan's music (ooga booga). Or if not satan's music, evil music.
How would you define it? Seriously, not Air Supply or The Carpenters, but what basic elements would be needed to create music that was without question identifiable as evil? -
