I've recently started playing tuba with our community band. It's been about 20 years since I've played (high school and college), and it's taking forever to get my chops back in shape.
Any other tuba players?

Playing the flute/piccolo paid my way through college. I was pretty good.
However, that was over 20 years ago. A young girl played a flute solo in church last year and it was very moving. I thought I would get mine out and maybe we could do a duet sometimes.
I did get the flute out. I did attempt to play it. NO chops!!
It made me a little sad. :tear: -

Band and choir was my ticket through college. I've played off and on since then, but nothing serious until now. I've sure got a lot of work to do!

In 2002 I picked up my clarinet after letting it sit for 20 years. No chops, but it didn't take long to get them back in shape.
I did have to get a new instrument because the pads were all shot. And there was a crack in the horn.
The repairman gave an estimate of at least $175, and no guarantee of playability.
I purchased an inexpensive one on Ebay. -

Maybe I just need to get my flute out and play it regularly. -
My husband has a Music Ed degree...and lower brass was his specialty. He plays tuba....what do you need?
(I played oboe, flute, piano, and took voice lessons at college for 5 years)

I was just wondering if there were any other tubists (is that right?) out there.
Now, if your husband knows someone with an old tuba they want to get rid of (real cheap!), that would be great. I'm using one from the local middle school this summer. -
Just flute/piccolo over here. I've been playing for almost 18 years now.

Dear SBC Preacher,
You said : " I was just wondering if there were any other tubists (is that right?) out there."
Tubist is the proper name for a tuba player.
I don't play the tuba, but I really like a tight brass section.
I've been playing conga drums, bongos, djembe, and other hand drums for 30+ years.
In Christ,
Dale
