Some have called Cuba an apartheid state because of Castro's historic blatant racism. I myself have wondered if Fidel and Raul's family--rich plantation owners--did not historically own black slaves until the Spanish-American War when slavery was at last ended in Cuba. The loss of their slaves could be part of the explanation for Fidel's thinking.
At any rate, it is said that there are no high ranking Afro-Cubans in Fidel and Raul's government. Afro-Cubans have made tremendous contributions to Cuba in their music. Unfortunately, 90% of those in prison in Cuba are Afro-Cubans, a fact that is not even acknowledged by the American leftists who support Fidel and Raul in spite of their murders.

In The Longest Romance, Humberto Fontova calculates that between 65,000 and 85,000 people have died trying to escape Cuba, 30 times the number of Berlin Wall casualties. Cuba’s prison population is 90 percent black and includes Eusebio Penlaver, “the world’s longest suffering black political prisoner.” That wasn’t a sticking point for Barack Obama.
