Apartheid Cuba

Some have called Cuba an apartheid state because of Castro's historic blatant racism. I myself have wondered if Fidel and Raul's family--rich plantation owners--did not historically own black slaves until the Spanish-American War when slavery was at last ended in Cuba. The loss of their slaves could be part of the explanation for Fidel's thinking.

At any rate, it is said that there are no high ranking Afro-Cubans in Fidel and Raul's government. Afro-Cubans have made tremendous contributions to Cuba in their music. Unfortunately, 90% of those in prison in Cuba are Afro-Cubans, a fact that is not even acknowledged by the American leftists who support Fidel and Raul in spite of their murders.

In The Longest Romance, Humberto Fontova calculates that between 65,000 and 85,000 people have died trying to escape Cuba, 30 times the number of Berlin Wall casualties. Cuba’s prison population is 90 percent black and includes Eusebio Penlaver, “the world’s longest suffering black political prisoner.” That wasn’t a sticking point for Barack Obama.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said that “President Obama's actions have vindicated the brutal behavior of the Cuban government.”

President Castro also called on Obama to use his executive powers to ease the decades-old economic trade embargo and to take Cuba off the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
To this end, he made the following pledge:
“From Cuba, no terrorist act has ever been organized, financed or carried out against any US person, interest or territory and it will never be allowed,” Castro said."

....Second, the Castro regime did order the shooting down of a plane over international waters in February 1996. It killed for 4 Cuban Americans, or US citizens. I would call that terror. It was one of the big reasons that those men were sitting in one of our prisons.

Third, we learned that the Cuban government will not send back fugitives from US law, such as the lady who killed a police officer in Philadelphia. They call it 'asylum"!

This speech was "in your face" Obama. It confirmed that the Castro regime has no plans to change. He is still that same dictator after all these years.

Castro's father was a wealthy Spaniard who came to Cuba during the war with the USA. Fidel had the best of everything all of his life, although some say that he was the son of one of the maids.

Cuba used to be the richest country in Latin America:

As with so much else regarding pre-Castro Cuba, major misconceptions abound in this editorial. To wit: in the 1950's the average farm-wage in "near-feudal" Cuba was higher than in France, Belgium, Denmark, or West Germany. According to the Geneva-based International Labor Organization, the average daily wage for an agricultural worker in Cuba in 1958 was $3. The average daily wage in France at the time was $2.73; in Belgium $2.70; in Denmark $2.74; in West Germany $2.73; and in the U.S. $4.06. Also, far from huge latifundia dominating the agricultural landscape, the average Cuban farm in 1958 was actually smaller than the average farm in the U.S.: 140 acres in Cuba vs. 195 acres in the U.S. In 1958 Cuba, a nation of 6.2 million people, had 159,958 farms -- 11,000 of which were tobacco farms. Only 34 percent of the Cuban population was rural
