The cause and effect of border violence
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, filed legislation on Thursday that he thinks will limit much of the illegal immigration coming across the U.S./Mexico border.
Under his plan, the U.S. would build twin metal fences along the entire 2,000-mile border.
------------------------------------------------
The cost would be a million dollars per mile or 2 billion dollars for the 2,000 mile stretch.
Are we ready to fence out Mexico and would this be the most efficient way to do it?
Are we ready to fence out Mexico

Seems just the right way to make enemies of our neighbors.
-
Donna,
The fact that they are crossing over illegally, terrorizing along the border, drug dealing and rapes.
We didn't choose for them to be our enemy, they chose to be our enemy. -
Sounds like a good beginning to me. But it'll never happen.
Neither Republicans nor democrats are serious about the illegal immigration problem. It's a potato too hot for those cowards to handle.
That includes George W. Bush. -
A million dollars a mile????
They need to get another contractor! -
-
Donna,
Presidente Vicente Fox chooses to do nothing about the obvious violence on the border from his side , I would think that the country of Mexico could care less about the effect it has on our country. So yes, in a way I am talking about a country and it's individuals. -
-
I think there is only 1000 or so miles on the Mexican border. I suspect we have Mexicans install it for $10/foot including materials.
-
I support this idea. We should have done it ten years ago.

"Are We Ready To Fence Out Mexico?"
Yes!! And not only Mexico but Canada. Not because we do not trust Canadians, but to keep out the 'rag head' types.

I respect any group that organizes and plays by the rules ...Right to Life....Animal Rights....
...Environmental Rights...for the majority and the most part they have played by the rules to the point of civil disobedience. With that being
said those of us against illegal immigration in
mass should have another arrow in our quiver and
that is the political leverage of a threat of
a massive wall along our southern border(worst of the two) to bring pressure to bear for someone
to actually do something.
If push came to shove and we communicate the negaitive or illegal immigration we might win more people to our cause.
The American people are frustrated that no one
is listening to them in the major parties.
They are the ones doing illegal things we are only trying to get organized and have political
leverage for someone to take notice and do something...the wall or fence if we handle it
right and communicate our cause then people will
know why a fence or wall is needed (to stop the
stampede effect).
We are playing by the rules they are not.
Disclaimer: I respect educated people my prejudice is against uneducated people here who act and do as they please without regard or respect...they should go...and I am sorry if a
minority of innocents get caught up ..the bad ones spoiled it for them...I would personally do
my best to see that ethical and christian ones
have a chance...I used to be for amnesty and the
such but I have seen, heard, and experienced some things that have changed my mind...you have
people here who really believe it is part of Mexico in the way theY act and sometimes speak...no effort on their part to connect and intergrate into the greatest culture in the history of the world...sorry they cannot have their cake and eat it too. imho
YES! A FENCE OR A WALL SHOULD BE ON THE TABLE
One experience: The American flag was taken down
and the Mexican flag was flown for a whole week
until I pointed it out..during Cinco da Mayo this was in a major airline office of 500 people with a diverse group ..not a problem with a day or
the day of celebration in the office ..plus fly
the American Flag in a higher staff than the Mexican flag...nooooooooo they had to have the Mexican flag take over the prominent spot.
Was it a major deal ..to me it was because it
showed an attitude of not wanting to really
come into the fold...by the way a great culture
to come into and be free.
It worked out alright I communicated my wishes and future wishes (bring solutions not just a gripe). Overall the point was to stand up and make an allowance but at the same time...you cross a line which I may discern as disrespect and I will do something.
I think that is what we must do with our border
of course allow grace...but also we should not
breed familarity to those who stampede across
our border that this is a second Mexico. -
Will this new fence stretch across the Trans Texas Corridor? <- link

Tom Tanccredo has written in part his own proposal(which is still flawed, but markedly better than Bennett's free pass)
Below is just one of the propasals to a common sense aproach of securing our borders.
Recites the sense of Congress that the President should deploy U.S. military troops, when feasible, to conduct training exercises in supporting functions for the Border Patrol.
You can find a complete list of Tom Tancredo's proposal at:

I say we need "The Great Wall of The United States of America". It would have to be cheaper than what we pay out now and in the years to come, whatever the cost.
