Obama seems to be quite pleased with the rising price of gasoline.
He sees it as a useful tool to force people to drive what he wants them to.

I mentioned a short distance for the all electric. Just to travel 500 miles would take over 40 hours, one work week, at their current distance and charge time using 110 volts for the charge if you can find a place to re-charge. However for those who have more time and money then they can spend then they may be attractive.

OR legislature is trying to get a bill through to tax electric cars for the gas tax that they won't be paying.
Portland city father's have been up front that they are trying to make driving too hard for the public so they will take mass transit. They keep increasing parking fees, put little into road repairs and in general make it difficult to drive if you want too. -

In a practical sense, he is right that a more fuel-efficient vehicle would help with gasoline expense.
However, the value of a trade-in is likely to be low because gas-guzzlers don't have a high demand with high gas prices in the marketplace. He would have to spend a significant amount of money to purchase a new car. Financially, he is probably better off just paying the higher prices for fuel. -

interesting graphs on gas price vs. sales.
Raise prices 25% and sales drop less than 10%? Prices are to low. Econ. 101. -
Most of us drive to work.
When the price of gas goes up there is not much choice other than to pay it.
BTW - why is the government so unconcerned about the rising cost of gas but they constantly hold hearings whenever the cost of cable TV goes up? -

The comment has been scrubbed by team zero.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Did the AP’s scrubbing violate their corrections policy?
Also, there's this point......
MORE: Reader Jennifer Townsend writes: “One point in the video that is not being commented on is Obama seems stunned that someone might actually *need* a larger vehicle rather than using it as a status symbol. ‘You may have a big family, but it probably isn’t that big.’ When children are in car seats, you can fit two children in a sedan. You might be able to squeeze three car seats into a smaller SUV but not comfortably. More than three children and a van or large SUV are the only options. And children are being required to stay in car seats for longer and longer periods of time, upwards to age 12.”
If Obama read InstaPundit, he’d know stuff like that. More here.

Obama has to pretend that higher gas prices are not a problem.
If he acknowledged the problem he would have to do something about it - like allowing more drilling. But he isn't about to do that. -
Then there's the problem that Obama is trying to increase dramatically the cost of electricity.
Bottom line, the push toward electric hybrids is a scam. It will end up costing consumers more for energy than normal vehicles and replace the use of oil with coal or natural gas, both of which Obama is trying to make more expensive and restrict the use of to generate electricity.
To go along with his economic illiteracy, Obama is also and energy moron. -
I completely agree on the electric cars. Hydrogen fuel cells or other methods should be the focus. Electricity doesn't come for free, so we are just rearranging deck chairs with electric cars. -

I think OPEC has a lot more to do with the price of oil than non-drilling in the U.S. That said, I'm all for drilling in the U.S. Had we started the process 8 years ago we would be reaping the benefits today. -
As Moderator of this forum and of this thread----------it is my duty to
PREDICT
Yes, this is a prediction!!!!
1. Gasoline prices will continue to rise slowly through the Summer months of '11
I payed $3.59/gallon at the pump yesterday(somebody help me remember these #'s!!!!!!!!!)
2.Beginning Fall of '11------gasoline prices will take a turn SOUTH and will drop to the below $3/gallon average it was a year ago
Obama will seize upon the SOUTHWARD turn of oil prices to springboard himself once again into the White House for another 4 years of American misery!!!!
He will have a platform to gain votes-------"SEE HERE!!! UNDER MY WATCHCARE AND GUIDANCE GASOLINE PRICES ARE DOWN DRAMATCIALLY!!!"-----------and US citizens are gullable enough to vote him back in on that platform!!!
Long story short--------------my prediction is---------there will be a direct link between prices easing off a bit at the pump and the reelection of YOUKNOWWHO!!!!:BangHead::tonofbricks: -

I sincerely hope you are wrong BB. Scar-tissue should never leave the wound & be completely visible to the victim.

Eh? What's that? The common peons can't afford bread? Tell them to eat cake!
(An Overheard conversation on Air Force One as President Obama wastes more fuel for yet another vacation.) -
You forget two facts, Targus:
1. Billwald knows nothing about economic matters.
2. Billwald is a contrarian. Facts are irrelevant...only arguing against your premise matters--no matter how sound it is.
If you argued, "People need Oxygen to survive," he'd die of suffocation trying to prove you wrong.
Having said all that, Obama is proving himself to be the village idiot to think trading in a car is always a wise economic move.
Good thing that community organizers don't have to live in the real world...they'd starve to death. -
Obama's "Think about a trade in" is the equivalent of "Let them eat cake."
Same disdain for the common man by the elite. -
to save a nickel at the pump
