Sad to say, but some Baptists have chosen to follow in the footsteps of the Catholic Church. Lent has entered the door, as well as a Friday crucifixion, which began a good number of years ago. Some have boarded a horse whose track gets mudder, and mudder.
To use the words sacred holiday implies that God made it that way which isn't true in the case of either Christmas nor Easter. God gave instructions on how passover was to be kept and on what day and passover isn't even a holy convocation day. It pointed to the death of the Word of God. Because Jesus the Word made flesh was the the passover lamb sacrificed for us Jesus changed the passover observance to the bread and wine. God gave days he called holy convocations. What makes them holy except for God calling them holy and putting his presence in them. Only God can make something holy which includes us. We are holy only through the presence of Christ in us the hope of glory.
Yes I participate in the Christmas celebration but I probably might have to answer for it before God.:jesus:
It is not UN-BIBLICAL to celebrate Lent. I do not observe it myself - as there is no instruction by the Apostles, but to say it is wrong is completely off base. Many Baptist consider Friday as the day Christ die - if the day was that important - I believe that the Bible would have been more specific ie the 6th day of the week. Now the day of the resurrection is very important - the First Day of the Week! PTL
(Personally, I am a Thursday crucification day)
Thanks for your input. Not all Baptist churches follow this practice. This observance I know can trace back to the 1st Century, but 40 is a number for Israel, the apostolic church. What has this to do with the Christian church in Antioch? Can we find in the Bible any reference to 40 days applying to Gentiles, or for that matter any Holy Days?
Do not Catholics believe as that apostolic church in Jerusalem?
Why in the world should we like to become as other churches seek to be under bondage? "But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?"
Not only was December 25th created as a religious holiday in the roman empire where more light was actually observable thus we have the celebration of Sol Invicutus or the conquoring sun.
But in our society in this modern time Christ-mas is an excuse to finally get most retailers operating in the black for the first time in the year.
Much of our economy hinges on this pagan festeval of lights and trees with presents.
This holiday it totally man made.
And its not in the bible listed as a feast day or celebration.
Thus you added a tradition of man to our christian faith.
What makes you better than the catholics?
You go DHK!
Go and get 'em!
Because all them C' tolicks are doing is putting the number of the beast on their foreheads.
Those dirty Papist!!!!!
(Catholics with ash on their heads.
Get it?
Dirty Papist?
