Bailout Summit Becomes 'Shouting Match'

WASHINGTON (Sept. 26) - Even for a party whose president suffers dismal approval ratings, whose legislative wing lost control of Congress and whose presidential nominee trails in the polls, it was a remarkably bad day for Republicans.

A White House summit meeting on Thursday meant to shore up John McCain's shaky campaign "devolved into a contentious shouting match." And that's how McCain's own campaign described

The meeting revealed that President Bush's $700 billion bid to combat the worst financial crisis in decades had been suddenly sidetracked by fellow Republicans in the House, who refused to embrace a plan that appeared close to acceptance by the Senate and most House Democrats.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson begged Democratic participants not to disclose how badly the meeting had gone, dropping to one knee in a teasing way to make his point according to witnesses.

Why is it that the democrats who are in the majority get nothing done?

And then the Repulicans who are in the minority are chided for not doing things that Republicans don't support on principle.

If the democrats are confident that they are right why don't they just do it and then take credit for it?

Because they know they will get vetoed. Harry Reid reportedly stormed out of the meeting. First he wanted John McCain there, then after John McCain decided to go, Harry Reid flip-flopped. What goofballs.

Bush wants this bail out too. So it is doubtful that he would veto it.

The democrats don't seem to have much excuse for not doing what they say should be done - other than wanting the Republicans to take the blame.

My guess is that the majority of taxpayers don't support this huge bail out.

It's time to get rid of all these goof offs on both sides of the aisle. They have let us down through their mismanagement. And yet we citizens will be idiots and put them all back in office again.
