While party loyalists insist that Frank’s district is heavily Democratic, the 71-year-old congressman admitted yesterday he’s stepping down because his newly drawn district would be harder to win.
“I would have had to work very hard,” said Frank, who has served in Congress for 32 years and faced a brutal re-election battle in 2010. “I think I would have won, but I do know this — it would have been a tough campaign.”
The new district was stripped of New Bedford — a pro-union stronghold — as well as eight other liberal-leaning communities. In their place are more GOP-friendly towns such as North Attleboro, Franklin, and Wrentham — some of which were in U.S. Sen. Scott Brown’s district when he was a state senator....
Good riddance, to one of the most despicable men who ever made law.
