Good question, but just thinking out loud, since no one was here to document the US prior to its discovery. Let’s say the natural land mass that connects Russia with North America was utilized by early indigenous people to populate North America. Let’s say centuries went by and eventual people made it into South America and those in let’s say what is now Florida, fished the outer banks of the ocean. They got lost, swept out to sea or something and found themselves in Cuba. From there the same thing happened and eventually Puerto Rico was populated in the same way.
I don’t know, but it’s a logical guess.
