Dave have you ever seen this verse Ephesians 1:13 or these Romans 10:9-10. What exactly do you think they mean? From what you have written, with all due respect, I do think you need some serious help in understanding the bible.

To answer your question one does not save him/herself. One is saved by the grace of God through faith. That is the condition that God has set for salvation.
