Hhmm I replied once but it didnt post, I am posting from my phone :)

Anyway, the King James Only controversy is an excellent work on the subject. As I posted in another thread, a new edition will be out soon. You can also check out the videos that John Ankerberg did. They are good but exensive. He actually had people from new translations there to debate KJVO proponents.

Opening post: // I do not think a Bible version has anything to do with salvation because that would be legalism, but do you think there is any chance at all that we could stand before the Lord one day and have to answer for our choice of Bible versions? //

    1. I agree with Bible version not having anything to do with salvation.

    2. as for the question of this topic, I don't think so. I've found out in life on this earth though that I'm not really sure I need to worry about God judging me in the future, I need to just learn to live with the other folks around - they Judge me right now much harsher than God will some day.

I wear my thought about Bible Version on my trailer (called a 'signature' here). I really do believe what I say. So I use lots of versions. As I've said many times, my favorite using Bible I keep nearby at all times is:

TODAY'S PARALLEL BIBLE (Zondervan 2000) which includes:

    1. KJV1873 Edition -King James Version (1873 edition)
    2. NIV1984 Edition - New International Version (1984 edition)
    3. NLT1996 Edition - New Living Translation (original 1996 edition)
    4. NASB1995 Edition - New American Standard Bible (1995 Update)

All four contain the Translator's notes. All four contain no cross references (unless per chance the translators put them there) nor commentary. (The NIV and NLT both put the OT verse(s) that are cited in the New Testament.)

My current reading/study is mainly from the NASB. But I tend to check the KJV1873 daily because I keep running into electronic variances between the KJV1611 Edition and KJV1769 Family of Editions. the KJV1873 gives a third witness to the matter at hand. How about that :tonofbricks: Maybe I should use this trailer?

    All VALID English KJV Bibles
    Collectively and Individually
    contain and are
    the Inerrant and Perfect
    Written Word of God
    preserved by Divine Appointment
for the generation in which they are translated.

Just as I suspected. Administrators and their supporters are exempt.

I guess it is ok for me to say that I really like the NKJV. I have been using it for 17 years now. I guess I'm just used to it.

Personally I like both the KJV and the NKJV for the TR/ MT but I also use the ESV for my preferred version of the Critical Text. Even the poorest translation can be of benefit. I was saved while reading the Living Bible back in 1974. I started reading the KJV and the NKJV together in 1989. Onlyism is nothing new in church history befor KJV it was the Latin Vulgate and before that the Septugint OT was the only bible accepted until the Latin Vulgate was widely accepted. During the early part of the church age the septuagint was the only complete bible available in greek until the NT Canon was put together.

While I can't speak for Dale, I can speak for myself.

I studied...THE KJV ITSELF, Cambridge Edition. In all its 700K + words, I couldn't find ONE WORD in support of KJVO.

...The AV 1611. Neither in its text nor in the translators' extratextual material, could I find one word in support of KJVO.

...The worx of virtually every published KJVO author. I researched all their points and declarations for VERACITY and found almost all of them wanting very badly. A clear example-The KJVOs say"Modern versions deny the deity of Christ by calling Joseph His father in Luke 2:33" In their enthusiasm to find fault, the KJVOs failed to read on in the KJV to Luke 2:41 and 48 where the KJV does the VERY SAME THING! This is just one example of the deception and downright ignorance I found in virtually every KJVO work.

...HISTORY. God has kept His word in many current languages for hundreds of years, and He is daily expanding the number of languages into which His word is translated, which is now around 2500 different languages and dialects, and growing.

I found that KJVO is ENTIRELY MAN-MADE, without one word of support from GOD, with its current edition derived from a CULT OFFICIAL'S book, with the whole idea being entirely false and without a bit of merit. I believe it's an attempt by the devil to restrict the reading, distribution, and understanding of God's written word, and an attempt by the devil to cast doubt upon God's word. That's why I work against it so vigorously. I have PROOF; the KJVOs have GUESSWORK AND OPINION and nothing more.

Two year old thread revived. Nothing has changed.

"Onlyism" is an awful evil blight on the Church today, attacking the precious doctrine of inspiration, and schismatic (dividing) Christians into those following God's Word and those bowing to a man-made translation.

Thankfully, this will soon reach 10 page and close for good.

    Hi robycop3

Thank you for your civil tone.

For me, the Scriptures that point out the importance & superiority of the King James Bible, are those that talk about preservation(and there are lots of them)!

Every verse or passage, that reminds us of God’s promise to preserve His Word, is a verse that supports the KJB, because “IF” God’s Word is being preserved, than it WAS preserved back in 1611(and before).
    --------------------------------------------------
But.......every word that is spoken, in support of the notion of “making the Bible closer to the originals”, is a slap in God’s face; By telling Him that He somehow allowed His Word to be LOST.

Therefore I don’t call myself a KJVOist; I am simply a Christian who BELIEVES that God is able to preserve His Word, for every single believer on the planet.
