Tiggertoddy,
Didn't know there were any like you left in the metro area. Know of a good church is Chaska, but thought they were the only ones in the cities area.
Their pastor isn't boring. haven't attended church there but have heard him preach.
have heard many "boring" preachers, that is if you judge their delivery. Tehir content is what makes the message. Have heard some dynamic speakers who bored me to tears with thier content.

I'll tell ya one of the best young preachers I've heard in a long time is a fella named Eric Capaci from Little Rock Arkansas. Any one hear of him?
-
Hey, if a pastor can't succeed in providing the congregation with an inspirational and uplifting 1 hour worship service, why would anyone think he'd be good at running the church the rest of the week?
I don't know of any bible verses that said Jesus was so boring he put the crowd to sleep. Just the opposite. He was so interesting to listen to, people came for miles to hear him speak. -
Sure there is such a thing as a boring worship service. I travel extensively and have been in, I'm sorry to say, many churches that nearly put me to sleep during service. If you've ever been in a cold church you'll know what I mean. It's a sad thing, but true.

If worshipping Jesus is exciting (and it is), then the service and its leaders should reflect that excitement. If the service is not reflecting that excitement (by which I emphatically do not mean there has to be loud music and dancing other other such stuff), I'll do my worshipping at home or at another church.
Somehow it has been charged that those of us acknowledging that a worship service can, in fact, be boring or dull, are clamoring for entertainment. We're not, at least I don't see how that can be inferred from any of the posts here. We're being either misunderstood or intentionally misrepresented. :( -
because of his personality? You
don't have an exciting, adrenaline
pumping service to have an exciting
worship service. As long as the church
is preaching and conducting services
based on the Bible, I don't see how one
can say that it is boring and they have
the right to change churches or not go to church. The way to reflect the excitement is to conduct a service biblically, whether with a boring preacher or a well known preacher.

Again, you're adding things that haven't been said. "Well known preacher?" Where was that said here? And "adrenaline pumping service?" Did anybody hear that? I know I didn't.
I think you're interpreting "exciting" with one short-sighted definition, and projecting something onto those of us who don't use that narrow view of the word. Exciting doesn't necessarily mean entertaining, and I think you're missing that.
I think a lot of the problem is muddled in your question. Worship should not be boring; however, a service can be boring, even if it's called a worship service.
Edited to add: If a pastor is generally a boring, dull person ("personality"), I would have to wonder why that person is in ministry. Perhaps that's my bias and experience talking, but I've always been around dynamic clergy.

Could you shorten the length of your line of
dashes to about half? It runs the posts on
this page so far off the right side of my screen
that they are not readable.
Thank you!! -
Now I'm confused  . I thought the main reason you go to church is to worship, not to have your worship enhanced?
The only way I see how a worship service can not enhance your worship or inspire you, is if your church is not doing things based on the Bible. I am not saying there can not be some good reasons to leave a church, I just don't get how one could leave a church because of their feelings toward it enhancing their worship.
Here are some tips:
If you want your worship enhanced, read Psalms.
If you want to be inspired, go talk to someone or read about someone who has pastored a church for a long time!
If the Word of God is being preached, that is enough for me. I like to hear stories, historical backgrounds, contextual analyses, and word meanings when a preacher preaches. To be honest, I would be perfectly fine if someone just got up behind the pulpit, and read the Word of God. Would you?

Do we go to worship God ?
I do It might be a little different for me,There are only two english speaking churches in my town and the other one is not baptist so that sort of limits my choice. I love praising the lord, But the sermon at my church can be a little too deep at times. That bores me silly. Then I go into my prayer mode very closely followed by my sleep mode although everyone thinks I am still praying  I do beleave however although the sermon should be the pastors responsability, atitude plays a strong part here. Fortunately our church serves coffee before,During and after the service. Coffee is as normal over here as extremely large donuts for breakfast are over in the U S of A -
We had a pastor one time who spoke so far out that many would say, "What did he say?"
He was the best 'people person' pastor who went 100% to his people in all of their spiritual journies. He was a Barnabas Encourager. He would get us to 'look up' answers to puzzling themes.
He asked me to research whether when we get to heaven we will see God the Father as well as Jesus.
The only Scripture I could find that applied was when Stephen was dying in Acts, he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father.
Sometimes they don't have all the Spiritual Gifts, but God has a purpose when He sends different ones to us for a season.
If the search committee and the church are both in tune with the Holy Spirit, then we better ask God what He wants us to learn by any ministry.
Shalom :D

Just wanted to share two stories I have heard in relation to some of the postings here. R.A. Torrey, undoubtedly one of the greatest preachers/teachers/academics in recent times, once sat in a church with his son. The preacher was an ordinary member of the church filling in for the pastor as the pastor was away. By all accounts it was a "dull" and "boring" service. At the end of the service Torrey's son asked him how he had remained interested through out the sermon. Torrey answered by telling him we have a responsibility to get something from the Word any time it is opened regardless of the messenger.
Secondly, a "boring" delivery does not make it a boring service. One of the most influential sermons I know of, Sinners In The Hands of An Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards, was read from a manuscript and Mr Edwards delivered it basically in monotone. However, before the end of the sermon people were going to the pulpit asking him to stop and tell them how to be saved.
Our attitude to worship will negate the value of the worship service to us. A good leader is certainly helpful, but by no means indispensable.
