Sides ? I don't think I blamed anyone. Seems to me the KKK/Nazis hate the Joos as much as most other identity politics driven groups. Could be any number of hateful folk.

It should come as no surprise that monuments to the people who lived our history are being vandalized. Monuments to US Military veterans are being desecrated and torn down all over the south, actions encouraged by the left.

I didn't realize what was going on in the South. Perhaps there are some Confederate-leaning people (a minority, of course) that hate the US military because it was the force that brought down the Confederacy. The veterans represent that force to them.

Substitute the word southern for black.

It is the monuments of Confederate soldiers which are being desecrated and torn down. Men who served in the Confederate military are US military veterans.

It was the decision by the radical left wing city council to tear down the statue of Robert E. Lee, a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1829. He rose to the rank of Colonel (0-6) in the United States Army and was offered a Major General's commission by Francis Blair, adviser to Abraham Lincoln, and was told he would be in command of the defense of Washington DC. He declined.

It was a stupid move by the City Council. If they were not all brain dead leftists they would have anticipated the outcome.

Most of those on the anti-South anti-everything-Confederate side seem to have forgotten Mr Lincoln's second inaugural address:

"With Malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds."

And for those of us who are believers, we also should remember that Robert E. Lee was probably the most committed Christian among all the generals from either side.

CSA General. But all those who served in the Confederate Army were made US Military Veterans by U.S. Public Law 85-425: Sec. 410 Approved 23 May 1958.

Remember, the North fought to preserve the Union and to abolish slavery. The "North" also enforced Civil Rights. Perhaps, some Northern communities now prefer to remember the positive accomplishments achieved, and want to remove from their presence the figures (statues) that hearken back to a very dark age. Some communities in the South may be doing the same thing. (As to the state flags, most have removed the Confederate Battle Flag portion).
We should respect the democratic process and the duly-elected members of the city council of Charlottesville, just as we should respect the Founding Father's intention with the Electoral College.

You might want to study what the war was actually about.

Actually, the Idea of the Union fighting to end slavery wasn't introduced until 1863, two years after the war began. So what was the North fighting for for those two years?
