Instead of speaking at the NAACP convention this year, the President is going to come to Indianapolis to address people in attendance at Black Expo, a yearly summer event in Indy.

Why should Bush speak before the NAACP? He would probably get a better reception before the democrat national committee.

    Exactly.

He has spoken before the Urban League three times.

He has no use for the NAACP since they abandoned their advocacy role and ran $2 million in TV ads to try to defeat him.

I would say the NAALCP is a lame duck organization since they are so politically polarized that they can't get anyone to listen to them anymore. I say they should be ignored as they drift away into oblivion.

    More than that , Joseph.

They should have their tax exempt status revoked since they broke the law when they chose up sides and openly worked to get a candidate defeated.

Bush has not spoken to the NAACP since 2000 according to the Indianapolis newspaper.

They invite him but then then do not even give him a polite reception. When did this country sink so far into the gutter that people cannot listen to a President speak and be polite?

Bush may not get a good reception at Black Expo in Indianapolis--I think it will be Thursday around lunch. Indianapolis Blacks are totally Democrat and one told me the other day that OBL was better to Blacks than Bush so it might be a hostile crowd also.

All of downtown for blocks in all directions will be shut off tomorrow. In fact, the entire downtown and part of the surrounding area to the north will be closed to all traffic during this event. I think every wino and mental patient on the streets has been jailed until Friday because there weren't any transients around yesterday that I saw.

I am not on the street--I am on the Baptist Board Political Section so I am not homeless and not wandering downtown begging for money.

The Black vote is no longer important to the major parties.

Not true. The black vote is just changing as they realize the NAALCP is not for all blacks, only liberal blacks.

Public libraries have computers; they're a good place for the homeless to access the internet.

The NAACP is too conservative, not too liberal.

Perhaps, from the point of view of the looney Howard Dean screamers on the far left end of the world, but not to most people. That is funnier than some of the nutty conspiracy theories prophecynut puts out there.

Sha zammmm! lets all go to the Library ;)

I think the Afro-American vote is really important
and still votes its interests, they want to get
back to the prosperity of the 90's and preserve
the middle class so more and more of them can
reach the middle class and beyond.

Under the bush culture of divisiveness we have
seen our country flounder and being sold off
a piece at a time to special interests, we have
seen deception out of this administration and
secrecy unprecedented. It will take hard work
for the next President to clean up Georges mess
and move us back into the era of hope.

NAACP is for the preservation of the middle class
especially for Afro-Americans..if that is liberal/conservative then that is a good thing, but it sounds ALL AMERICAN TO ME.

These Americans are increasingly voting for the candidates they individually believe are best for their government right along with all Americans. The political bosses and whips of the NAACP and the Democratic party don't have as much influence over voting decisions as they may once have had among these Americans. That's a very good thing!

The "Bush is evil" angle makes another entrance! Is there anything, in your eyes, that's not his fault?

The stated primary focus of the NAACP is the protection and enhancement of the civil rights of African Americans and other minorities. All Americans need to understand this organization is not now, nor ever has been, significantly interested in the "preservation of the middle class" of Americans in general. I also don't recall any significant emphasis put upon "other minorities" but I might have missed it.

Message to the Bush Haters: He will be in office until January 2007 so you will have to do better than you are doing now at propogating lies. They are too obvious.

The NAACP is more accurately called the NAALCP - National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Colored People.
