I'm being cremated. (well, not now, but eventually).
So why spend the money on an SUV when a mini cooper will do? -
Caskets - Overnight??? Wazzupwitdat?
-
Cremation is fine with me but The Wife wants to be panted.
I think I will ask my kid to build a storage box that can function as a casket. Real plywood, no chip board or OSB. -
*Sigh*
Between $1,000 and $3,000 for a box! A box to be buried in the dirt!
What's wrong with a good ol' 3/4" plywood box with a few strong handles screwed onto the sides for carrying? It doesn't even need a catch for the lid, if you think about it. Two hinges, a dowel to prop the lid open for viewing, and a layer of cloth to line the inside for looks.
One reading from Revelation, another from 1 Cor. 15, the Lord's Prayer, and down she goes. I'm just as buried as that millionaire six plots over.
Who sold us this bill of goods that we need a $3,000 box to properly bury someone we love? -
That does seem pointless to have to spend that for a casket.
What I wonder is why they don't rent display caskets for services and do away with caskets? It's not illegal to be buried in a plain pine box, is it? It would make so much sense and be so much less costly. -
That is ridiculous. I agree with Pipedude. When our dad passed away, they tried to guilt us into a more expensive casket and hermetically sealed liner, can ya believe it? My sister said "you know when Jesus comes back for us that grave is going to open up and he will be made new and with the Lord! Who cares about a polished fancy box.
I saw an article some time ago for one that a man makes, that one half slides into the other and until you need it, it can be used as a coffee table. Our brother-in-law, a talented woodworker, said he would make caskets for us. LOL -

Just plant me in the garden with the pets.

If my wishes include my legs to be cut off, can they make mine shorter and save my family some $$? :D

I told my wife I wanted to be cremated with all my money. She said she'd wite a check and have it placed in my urn.

$3000 seems mid-range to me. I'm pretty sure I saw some $8000 dollar copper ones at a funeral home a few years back.
Even if you do get a pine box, you'll probably have to get a concrete vault too and they ain't cheap. -
Speaking of concrete vaults...
Has every person who died through history been dug up and placed in a concrete vault? If not, why the concern about the rest? If ya plant 'em deep enough, they ain't doing nothing until the rapture. -
Good point, sfc. No, most people who have been buried in history have completely decayed. Even if one's remains are placed in sealed steel casket in a vault, the rate of decomposition is slowed, but not stopped. It may take a few hundred years instead of a year or two, but it will happen.
I'm a cremation guy. I won't neen my body when I'm done with it. So why spend the money? -
But you folks don't understand...
My vault & casket are "lifetime guaranteed."
(grins) -
And if your casket fails, up you come!!!

If the Lord doesn't come for me first, I'll be cremated, and my ashed scattered by my family, in the place I've already picked out.
