Have you ever been in the military? If yes have you ever observed how the members receive training? They are first stripped of individuality so that they can become a cohesive unit this is called boot camp. Then they are all trained to respond to the same stimulus in the same way, so that there are no surprizes, and no weaknesses in the ranks, and so that if one is struck down a 'like-replacement' is readily available to take the one's place.
We don't do that in civilian life because we "value" the person's individuality. Consequently we end up with different results to the same stimulous.
It is our "conditioning" that enfluences what we believe. If we are conditioned to think there is no God, there is no reason to believe it when we hear there is. If our conditioning says that "our family just doesn't believe that" who are you to go against your family? If our conditioning says that it is not cool to be Christian. we will do all we can to avoid becoming a Christian.
