The Definitions
BYOD: Bring Your Own Device. Use your personal smartphone or tablet for work rather than using the company provided phone.
Gen Y: People born in the mid-1980's to the year 2000, proficient users of new technologies. Also called Millennials.
The Survey
3,800 workers in their 20's were asked a series of questions regarding their technology devices. Among the shocking findings (shocking to this baby-boomer) were:
75% of respondents use their personal device for work related purposes.
55% said it was a right, not a privilege, to use their personal device at work.
36% said they would violate a company policy banning the use of their own device in the workplace. (In India the number was 66%)
66% said they and they alone were responsible for corporate security of information on their personal device, NOT the company. Only 22% said the company was responsible.
35% said they could not go a day without accessing social networks (Facebook, Twitter)
47% said they could not go a day without texting.
