Does God call some to preach; or is this a calling to all Christains??
"CALLED" Preachers

1. Jesus commanded His disciples to Go into all the world. If you name the name of Christ then it is your duty to your Saviour to obey this command and preach the Gospel to your lost associates whether they be family, friends, or co-workers.
2. It is Biblically obvious that God has called some men to be leaders of the churches. As such this is a special call in addition to the general call to all. -
Preach has more then one definition, most tend to give it with one definition.
1:preach means to proclaim. We are all instructed to proclaim the Gospel, or even proclaim Gods will to those we meet in our every day life.
2:To pronounce a public discourse on a religious subject, or from a subject, or from a text of Scripture. The word is usually applied to such discourses as are formed from a text of Scripture. This is the modern sense of preach
Also, we dont see in the word that it is only Pastor who preach as in definition 2. Not all those we see in the word who preached were Pastor. At our church we have number of men who are able to get in the pulpit and preach unto us a message. And there are a few who rent radio type and preach.
Just some additional thoughts on the matter.

He doesn't call ALL Christians to preach because there are a lot of us women out here... :tongue3:
BTW, I believe God calls women to be preacher's wives too. :love2: -
The definition for preach is...
To proclaim by public discourse; to utter in a sermon or a formal religious harangue. To inculcate in public discourse; to urge with earnestness by public teaching. "I have preached righteousness in the great congregation."
But then we also see it has this definition....
To advise or recommend earnestly.
I was thinking that this verse...
(2Ti 4:2 KJV) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
and this verse....
Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
might fit under the definition To advise or recommend earnestly.
But never in a authority role, like in a pulpit or teaching position where we are putting ourselves up there as the teacher, in any kind of public setting.
But for example, if a teenager is at lunch and they are a christian and the topic of religion comes up, and it is a group of people sitting around talking about it, she should proclaim the gospel and earnestly contend for the faith. So that does fall into what preaching is, too.
:godisgood: What do you think? Blessings, Colleen -
I think I would call that witnessing. :saint:

God calls men to preach, but not all men. And of those that He calls, not all accept that calling or remain faithful to it.
All Christians are called by God, or they would never have accepted Christ. But the call to salvation and the call to proclamation are entirely different. Having experienced both of them, I can say this without hesitation. -
Words need to be taken in the context they are in, and not to just mean one context when that is not so, with many words.
Woman can preach the word, just not over a public setting where they put themselves on stage for example or in a teaching position over men.
I am going to take a look at the word witness, too, see what that is exactly. I know it is not my witness but it is me bearing witness of Jesus.
I am not being picky here, just as a woman, I have looked at this kind of thing closely to make sure I am in Gods will. And it gets us looking deeper into the scriptures which is always a blessing. -
I think we are all called to proclaim .. perhaps the word exhort might be a more bibical way to say it, rather then preach.

I see Romans 10: 13-14 as telling us that a Preacher must present the Word; at which time a lost person has the opportunity to: 1. Hear 2. Believe 3.Call
Therefore when one is witnessing; he/she is therefore preaching. I fully realize that the subject of 'women preachers' is another subject on its own. Witnessing or preaching is the same no matter where it occurs; whether in the pulpit or on the street corner! EVERY child of God has a commandment (not a gift) from God to present the Gospel to a lost and dying world. -
Great post!
