The RCC is being pressured about it's stance aginst same-sex unions, and some of the strongest critics are from it's own ranks.
Ted Kennedy calls himself Catholic, but openly supports gay marriage.(And abortion amuk) This can't help.
Article
Why do you think it's so important, in a land of Church & state seperation, that the RCC needs to defend it's stance to lawmakewrs ? Is it to change the meaning of the word marriage to include these arrangements ? You know the minuite the Church accepts any kind of same-sex union, they will be pressured to endorse openly gay priests, and perform gay marriages. But it's reluctance to even recognize them as couples will eventually be talked about as hate-crime, or discrimination.
I wonder why this pressure is being applied to the most important Catholic in New England.
Can the RCC overlook the Gay Ban

What is the point of your post? Are you in favor of the Catholic Churches position same sex unions and homosexuality. Or is the purpose of your post to lampoon the Church even if it feeds the other side. That is how it appears. I am not concerned about the Church "caving" on homosexuality. It has not done so with regard to any moral issue for 2000 years. Certain Bishops may but the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church.

Gov. Davis (soon to be kicked out of office) has been so threatened by the bishop of Sacramento, I understand, for his stance on abortion and gay marriage.
God bless,

Curtis,
You make me laugh.
First, Ted Kennedy is no longer a Catholic; he left the Church. Second, the bishops of the Church have spoken out more times than my ten fingers can count with regard to same sex unions.
Do you spend any time at all informing yourself? Or is a pot shot at the Catholic Church your primary objective, irregardless of the facts? -

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a document entitled Considerations regarding proposals to give legal recognition to unions between homosexual persons on July 31 of this year.
I encourage anyone interested in the stance of the Catholic Church with regard to homosexual unions (e.g., Brother Curtis) to read this important document:
http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html
"There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law. Homosexual acts close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved." -

On his Senate website, Kennedy still identifies himself as a Catholic. Perhaps for political reasons, or perhaps he actually thinks he is one.
(That said, as a practical matter I'd say he left the Church several decades ago).

Right, Bro.Curtis.
I guess that would make Bill Clinton the spokesman for the Baptist faith. -

Sorry, disagree with the post.
As a Protestant Christian, I applaud my Catholic brethren for standing firm on social issues, year after year.
When you look at many of the current issues - abortion, women in the clergy, homosexuality, etc., it is not the Catholic Church that has capitulated. Instead (I regret to say), it is our own Protestant churches. -

Hey guys, where was my potshot, exactly ? I am asking people why they think the pressure is on the Church. I actually agree with the biblical stance the RCC takes here, so get the chip off yer shoulders and answer my question.

But this one ain't.....
But for anyone who really does want to talk intelligently, my thinking is that since New England has such a large Catholic population, this would be a great area to pressure the church to compromise. But shouldn't the published stance by the bishop be enough, ? Why is he being pressured ? -
All the Roman Catholic church NEEDS to says is that GOD wrote the "BOOK" and we simply follow IT and believe IT and place our trust in IT that IT is GOD's WORD. We don't make up the rules...
However, I think the Roman Catholic church has already headed down the path where they pick and choose the literal accuacy of BIBLICAL history and design and ammend their OWN traditions. Sort of like painting one's self into a corner. They are only as strong as their "WORD" and they don't hold to most of it. -

Yes, but that's not where I wanted this to go. I am merely asking opinion on why the pressure is on the catholic church, but not others, to change.

The Roman Catholic church is the church of the masses. It's the big guy in on basket. It's a larger target. The media gets more bang for their buck.

That I agree with. Kinda like a domino effect, if we can get the RCC to accept gay lifestyles, then the marriage laws can be re-written, and then society will be forced to accept it.

One more thought.....kinda off topic.
We had a "changing of the guard" so to speak, up here in Mass. You may have heard about it. We got a new archBishop, I believe he is called. During the ceremony, guess who had the seat of honor ? None other than our favorite homo-celebrating, fetus killing senator, Ted Kennedy.
And he is still going to church, as folks here have falsely told otherwise....
