Let us take a look at the magnitude of what we are talking about.

Please put your theology books down for a few minutes. And pick up a pencil or calculator.

U.S. consumers purchased 19.5 billion garments of apparel in 2008. That is not dollars, but number of garments. Do whatever math you care to do.

    19.5 billion garments @ $10 = $195 billion
    19.5 billion garments @ $20 = $390 billion

Do Americans need to spend $195 billion (or more) each year on apparel?

This is a problem. Sunday best is one thing. But $195 billion (or more) each and every year?

God (and the millions of people in poverty) need all of the Amos prophets preaching out their hearts and souls on this.

    What's in your closet?

    ...Bob

    Bro Willis -

I can understand your point as well as that of others here.
All I'm saying is that this preacher is speaking in the right venue.
Now, if he went to a member's house to see how they're dressed and "dress them up" right there in that member's house, he ought to be thrown out because then he is encroaching on their private and personal lives.

    But in church ?
    He is the pastor.
The Lord who chose Him knows all about His style and His manner of speaking and still called Him to the ministry and gave Him proof of his calling.
Who, then, are we to "educate" him better than the Lord who called him ?

Years ago back in the Philippines, we were under a similar type of preacher.
But one day he went visiting us and saw my wife had her hair cut short to her nape and started to upbraid her right there and then in front of me to the embarrassment of my wife.
I cut him off politely, walked him out, told him to take our names off the roster of members, and that he was no longer welcome to our home.

    you don't know that.
and I don't see members of his congregation here.
and, oh, by the way, isn't he a member of the "body of Christ" ?
and therefore ought to be "loved" ?
    helllloooo......

How can this pastor possibly be speaking in the right venue? One mark of leadership is that you anticipate problems (proactive) and not let them grow and grow and get out of control (reactive). If this pastor had addressed the immodest dress on an individual basis as soon as it was seen (either him or another leader of the church), then the sermon would not have been necessary. As it is, it shows a problem that was neglected, is out of control, and wasted time as a result of his own lack of leadership speaking on a subject that would have better been spent on reaching out to the lost with the Gospel.

Sometimes the best expression of love is to correct. When you correct a child does that mean you are not loving the child?

    Bro. Tim,

And I too, understand where you are coming from, and I agree to a certain extent. There was a Brother of a local church, who would get mad at women if they didn't come to church with a dress on! However, he ALWAYS wore tight fittin' jeans to church, and his "endowment" protruded, if you get my drift! He should had been admonished for wearing his pants in such a manner, but we have a member from that same church who was excluded in the church parking lot, because she wore pants to church in the middle of winter!! People will swallow a camel and gag at a gnat. Let's look at it this way, a pastor's life is not one of "ease and comfort"! I sure don't want that for myself, unless God calls me to be one.

    i am I AM's!!

There are testimonies online about how this man treats his church's saints out of the pulpit.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs in China?

The pastor was scolding the women in his congregation, NOT the cast of Jersey Shore. Maybe if Snookie was sitting in the pew listening, you might have a point.

I would be leery of any "testimonies" of those he has talked to outside the pulpit. Too many times, people get offended when shown the truth. Who are we to say that their testimonies are the truth? Someone may have an axe to grind. Just because it's in print, does not make it fact. I would not draw any good or bad conclusions based on some testimonies.

My point is-----in my personal opinion---the dude "crashed and burned"---the sermon was sloppy!!! If he were in the Marines and I were "Gunny"---I'd have him runnin' laps, doing pushups, digging ditches and sweeping the parade grounds with a toothbrush until he thinks he can come up with something that is more relivant!!----while everyone else is on the rifle range shooting and having a good time---he'll be out on the parade ground with that toothbrush in the blistering hot sun---next time he'll get it right!!!!:laugh:

Have I ever "crashed and burned" a sermon??? You betcha!!! Have I ever taken a little bit too far of a lead off of 1st Base and gotten tagged out?? You betcha!! Have I ever got thrown out tryin' to steal 2nd?? You betcha!! Anybody but Jesus can sometimes get a sermon and run it off a cliff!!!!!

LOL....I tells ya, brother willis, we saints are a strange bunch.
did you read about my comment on doctrines about how we even had one that specified how the hair was parted ?
Remember that time when shaggy was in vogue ?
You know. mopheads ? no part on the hair ?
I almost got disfellowshipped by the same church. rotfl.
then we had a member who parted his hair smack on the middle of the head.
somebody invoked the "pertaineth to" and applied it on the hair.
since we were a bit older than this guy, he and his then girlfriend, now his wife, often came to us for counselling and advice.
my wife and I could hardly keep straight faces.
he left the church when we did...

What? Al Martin is a human being, infallible and prone to sin. Blasphemy is against God and God alone. Are you equating Mr. Martin to God????
