And the sad part is that minimum wage should be at least $100 per hour.
We are just going to have to have the government take over everything so that people can get what they deserve.
Think about how much the intellectuals are worth an hour.
The good news is that fast food minimums will soon be $15/hr.
The bad news is that fast food owners who don't want to pay the $15/hr minimum will turn to automation and fire all but the two or three employees needed to operate the machines.
so it is possible that franchises in only minimum wage States/Commonwealths will also get robotics - which means that minimum age workers there will suffer due to the decision of Seattle.
Moral of the story - be careful what you ask for, you may get more than you bargain for.
Heaven forbid, that anyone should get a living wage! If so maybe so many people would not be pulling food stamps.....and it could help curb the growth of the average waist line......bring it on I say!
For those who think they should get paid $15 for flipping burgers, why don't they go out and start their own business, then they can pay themselves whatever they want.
No one is against a living wage. Forcing companies to do is unAmerican contrary to the market. Some markets do not support such wages and those jobs were never intended to be for those supporting a family. There is no reason to force them into it.
That's right -if a person wants a "living wage", he needs to find a job with more responsibility,- which in turn will pay you more.
Here Is what I find interesting:
its said certain jobs do not pay enough to raise a family on.
So are you saying that a single man does not need to be paid as much as a family man?
Yep, you are right. Keep those wager low so the price we pay is low, but for heavens sake don't help those people just because their wages are so low they can't afford to live. Gotta protect those poor millionaire corporate folks. :tonofbricks:
What is happening in this country is that there is a shortage of workers because people, especially mothers with children, can make more from welfare than they can from work.
Employers cannot pay more money because federal taxes are too high.
Taxes on American corporations are the highest in the world.
The Democrats say that Mexicans will take the low-paying jobs that no one wants.
You don't get it. It is not keeping food prices low to keep wages low. Low is low and the rich cannot get rich off of lower anything. Except that of the prices of the food go to high no one will buy the product. You do not get to have it both ways (ie raise wages thereby raising prices and prices go up and people continue to buy the product.) Customers will not buy a 10 dollar burger. Sorry its just not going to happen.
They can however go get another job that pays a living wage. They are out there. No one is restricted to work at McDonalds.
I doubt they will rise greatly in my view. Greatly to me would be by several dollars per hamburger. I don't think that would happen. Other companies that have raised their minimum wager have enjoy success and are entering a second round of raising wager. I posted this in a new thread a week or two ago. The reverse of the OP happened.
Whether or not they enjoy success depends on the market for the product. We cannot say that what happens in one single industry will also happen in every industry. Retail has little room for change. The reasons are largely due to high overhead. Other industries where the overhead is lower can stand some change but then those employees are already making far above higher than minimum wage.
There is a lie that is being trotted out by the left which says the employees are being paid less just so the owners can make more. The fact is employees are being paid according to market allowances (what people are willing to pay for the product) as well as overhead not owner bank accounts. While what I just said is not exhaustive on everything in the process it is the main drivers.
My thoughts on this subject is similar to those involving unions,
if you're not happy with your job, by all means look for another job.
Nobody is forcing you to work there.
Let the market drive prices and wages.
