This is a quote from Stephen Collins talking about his reasons for taking the part in 7th. Heaven. You can read the whole article at:
www.peoplejustlikeus.org
From there click on Christian Actors, then Stephen Collins.
"Collins explains that it was primarily his faith that encouraged him to pick such a role model lead: "I spent most of my life as a kind of Christmas Eve churchgoer and I always loved church and I loved to visit churches and spend time in them, but I wasn't really a regular worshipper. And about 5 or 6 years ago, I started going to church in earnest. I sort of rediscovered it for myself. I think if that hadn't happened, I probably wouldn't have wanted to play the part in 7th Heaven. But when I read the part, I thought this would be great. I can actually use my own feelings I have about God and faith," relates Collins in a recent interview."

SImilarly, there are numerous actors who are devout Jews. Kirk Douglas and Dr Laura Schlessinger are faithful members of the Jewish community. -

Let me try to explain this to you one more time.
George Burns isn't really God, even though he played God in a movie.
George Reeves couldn't really fly, even though he did on TV.
Ronald Reagan played a man who had his legs amputated in "King's Row", yet we saw that he had both of them as president.
In the same way, just as a television newscaster isn't actually engaging in the things he is reporting on, an actor or actress in a movie is simply telling a story.
Usually, it's a fictional story. Sometimes, it may be a story that's based on real events or meant to dramatize real events, but it's still just telling a story.
The actor or actress isn't advocating the things and, often, when their characters do bad things, they face negative consequences.
In the same way, singers mayuse songs to tell a story but this doesn't really mean that they are doing these things or advocate them.
Last night, we went to see Jimmy Buffett in Camden, NJ (outstanding show, by the way...lot of old material...very laid back show).
His set list included one of my favorite songs, "Cuban Crime of Passion".
"Cuban Crime of Passion" is based on the true story of a love triangle that ended in murder many years ago in Havana, Cuba. JB has remarked that he wrote the song after reading about it in a local newspaper.
Now, did either the song or the newspaper article glorify it? Did either of them advocate it? Did either one of them take part in the murder?
On a related note, if an actor reading from a script actually becomes that character and becomes responsible for their moral choices, does that mean that when Christians read from one of the many passages of scripture that refer to God in the first person actually become God? -

Mike McK said to DonnA:
How about when a director tells a professing "Christian" actor:
"Okay, in this scene, you're on top of this lady, and you're both obviously naked, though your behinds will be partially covered with a blanket, but, your legs will show, and the obvious is obvious because we'll show her legs on top of the back of your legs, and you'll do a slight grinding, and, boom, the door opens, and there's the husband, and you reach for your gun and you call the husband mudda-----and shoot him dead cause, hey, you're the a made man, and he ain't, and she's in on it anyway, okay ?"
So, the actor thinks, I'm an adulterer in this film, a murderer, and a gangster, but, hey, I'm really (whatever his name is) and everybody knows I'm a Christian, and God knows I'm His child, and He knows this is my job, and He'll understand that.
Besides, didn't Paul say (Romans 7:17):
Now then, it is no more I that do it, but, sin that dwelleth in me ?
Besides, I'm saved by grace thru faith, and all my sins have been covered, past, present, and future, so I'm a free man !!!
(Ya'll fergot Britney Spears, 'smatter wid ya'll). -
No one will answer my question. Was it wrong for me to play Shylock in the high school play? To top that, my niece played the wicked witch in the "Wizard of Oz" in elementary school. Should she repent?
-
Glad to hear that Radar is a Christian...never heard that before!!!!!
-
This may not be the right arena; but what is your take on Glen Campbell? I know Glen, but haven't talked to him in at least 15 years. Didn't seem too repentant in TV interview.
-
Glen Campbell is a Christian. But, he's got some major personal issues he needs to deal with. Pray that God comforts folks like him.

johnv:
how 'bout the following. some may not be actors/actresses but they're known personalities. (honest question, johnv):
Merle Haggard, James Taylor, Don Mc'lean, Willie Nelson, Charlotte Church (I just love this kid's sweet voice ).
Know of any classic country singers who may be believers ?
I know Tenessee Ernie Ford is one. -
Saw Chad Everett (Medical Center) on the TBN (Faith Movement Network) as I was flippin' through the channels last night. Glad to see he's a Christian. Sad to see he's on TBN.
-
They're not actors but I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned Alice Cooper or Gary Cherone (Extreme/Van Halen).
Greg Martin, who has played guitar for both the Kentucky Headhunters and Lynyrd Skynyrd is a Christian.
Greg even presents the Gospel pretty solidly on his website.
Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen are both Christians.
Also, Peter and Jim Mayer are Christians.
Mac MacAnally, of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, is an outspoken Christian and he does talk about it a little from the stage in his solo shows.
Here's Mac...

Some of the bios I have read about Tom Hanks claim he was born again in his teens. Seems to be one of the more decent guys in Hollywood.....

Here is a link with more Christians AND more cultists in the public eye...

Mac and Peter are going to be webcast live on RadioMargaritaville.com at 10:00 tonight (Wednesday).
I've gotten to see both of these guys both solo and with the Coral Reefer Band. They always put on a great show. -
Flipping around the channels this afternoon, I saw a story on E! about 70's teen hearthrob, Lance Kerwin.
He's a Calvary Chapel pastor now. -

I think it's pretty sad that a person who read this topic sent me a private email that says the following:
"... I doubt very much if your are truly born-again, or know the Jesus of the Holy Bible."
It's truly sad when Christian brethren take it upon themselves to judge the salvation of others over a benign topic such as this. Please join me in praying for this person. -
I agree John. All of us may not agree all the time, but no one has a right to question your salvation just because they disagree with you. There always seems to be the holier-than-thou bunch who think they have the right to judge when they don't even know a person and certainly don't know your heart or your relationship with the Lord. I don't agree with a lot of people on here but never question their salvation. (their sanity maybe, but not their salvation). That's not for us to decide.
One thing I do know. You can't change a person's mind about anything by arguing with them about it. -
I think some otherwise very intelligent people lose out on opportunities to be a positive influence on others because of their manner of communication.
