You already know I knew that.
and you already know I think they would have done it diff. if they thought it went as it has. wait ...hold on I have to keep looking to see which post this is but in my mind the alegence is to "one nation under God" does not really matter if I am the minority. my motivation to fight for you to have the freedoms you have could be different than the motives you may have to fight to keep those same freedoms for me.

What do you mean by if they knew how it would have went? Sin increases day by day and year by year. The world is getting worse and they knew that. I don't believe they wanted a Christian nation...they wanted a nation where everyone had religious liberty.
Isaiah 40 says what God thinks of nations... -
I must agree with King James. The history of the Bill of Rights and Amendment I is proof positive of that.

James,
I took this from the other post:
do you really think they saw it going to this?
I am going to stick with my broken record . I don't think they invision that every night a large % of the nation would be bombarded with TV that continues to glorify or at least say gay is an option. That a girl could get an abortion and her parents never have to know that gay life style would be taught in kindergarden that a president would commit adultry and get nothing for it . (He is seen every night now as a chanpion for helping storm victioms)no I do not think they could imagine this. I can't even imagine it while I type this.
If any one really thinks they could see this comeing . I need to get off here before I make someone mad. -
No, God has not let us go yet but I think these say He could.
Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. -
buckster, that passage is talking about individuals though. Not an entire nation.
-
I will let God be God and view it as a warning to individuals, congregations, cities, states, nations and alligned nations.
-
There is a thread for the Constitution question. The topic here is a Christian pledging allegiance to a secular nation.
-
and if it is talking to individual it is a group
"their women" "the men" -
Ok, but I am letting God be God as well. I believe it is a passage directed at individuals. Isaiah, chapter 40 already describes what God thinks of nations.
-
Lets stick to the topic please folks.
The Pledge we use was written my a socialist who wanted to de-emphasise states right.
Should we truly pledge at all, much less using one designed by a socialist? -
the const. is what is at the heart of determing if this is a secular nation.
-
I'm glad I live in Canada where we don't have to debate anything like this since we have no pledge.
-
Lets keep to the topic here. The question was about pledging allegiance to a secular nation. You already said that it is not right to do so. If we want a thread on "Is the US a secular nation?" lets move the discussion there.
-
I don't concider it to be and I don't think God has turned us loose yet. but we, even christians, have to be getting close to suffering for what we sit by and watch happening.
So when I pledge it is to the non secular nation under God. When I sing the SSB I sing all the verses. When I say God Bless America I include a request to forgive them for they know not what they do. -
Let's just agree to disagree brother buckster.
-
I care less for the flag than for the Constitution. The flag is just a symbol that is too often used as a rallying point for agression both at home and abroad. It is too often perverted to silence dissenters - either salute the flag and go along with the crowd or be accused of "hating America". When some politician wraps himself too tightly in the flag, I have to wonder what he is hiding.
I have no qualms whatsoever in pledging to uphold the Constitution. -
Hey Daisy, I was at a Tigers baseball game last week. During the anthem I saw someone give me a dirty look cuz I didn't put my hat over my heart. I sorta kinda pulled my passport out and hoped they saw the big Canada coat of arms. :D
-
If I was in Canada I would salute your flag, anthem..etc. I try to repect things others might hold in esteem. as long as it does not go against scripture.(this is me, not saying that you should do it)
