"The church serves the pizza just off campus at Nathan Hale, Ingraham, and Roosevelt high schools. It's once a week, just off campus at each school. A spokeswoman for the Seattle School Districts says the church notified them of the giveaway and it was 'ok' with it. But the union representing the district's cafeteria workers is not ok with it."
"a union representative left a voice mail on the church's answering machine claiming handing out free pizza was irresponsible and costing people who serve the food their livelihood, accusing the church of doing whatever it took to proselytize to the students.
'He said that if we stop serving them pizza, we would start serving them drugs,' said [Pastor Nick] Steinloski. 'I felt intimidated by that message.'"
"[Union Representative Dave] Westberg: "'If they don't stop we will be picketing.'"

See I was on the church's side until he said that. Seriously? You felt intimidated by that? You're a pastor. If that intimidated you I'd hate to see your response when the old blue hairs from the kitchen committee came after ya.
I felt intimidated. I ought to -
Judging from the title, I thought this would be another Babylon Bee article. *laugh*

It depends on how nasty the local union's reputation is. Out here, we don't take such a treat lightly.

Either way, sad and stupid situation.

Are the union members upset at kids who bring their own lunch to school?

The OP reminds me of an incident in Brazil many years ago. We were walking with a young woman. Passing a street icicle vendor we bought one for each of us. The young woman took the wrapper and tossed it onto the sidewalk. My wife chastised her about littering the street. Her response was:
"If I don't throw it on the sidewalk the sidewalk and littler cleaners will not have a job. Do you want them to be jobless?" -
