In our church, the pew Bibles are KJV, but people bring their own Bibles in whatever translation they prefer.
-
Our pew bibles are the KJV and NIV.
We do not encourage people to use just one version. Our members bring the bible they prefer to use. -

The church I attend does not have pew Bibles.
Are pew Bibles the norm? -
In the south I think they are.

I've heard that people in the South still "dress up" for church. Is that true?
Here in California, casual attire is the norm. -
It depends on the church.
My church is mostly casual. On Sunday's a few birds fly in all decked out -
I atend a an SBC church it has NIV's for pew Bibles. the pastor told me that he used to preach from the KJV but when the deacon board elected to use the NIV for pew bibles in 1991, he began preaching from the NIV. A lot of people at my church also use the NKJV. And SS material of course is the HCSB. The NCV is somewhat popular among the youth at our church. I think I'm the only person there who uses an ESV or has even heard of it.

Yep, me too. My pastor preachs from some other translation, i forget
just which. He has been in the ministry 40 yeras so he will generaly
say "the KJV says whatever here". I take my HCSB to Sunday School
Class so also have it in the pew. -

My SBC church (5000 members) does not have any pew bibles. The pastor preaches from the KJV but has never made any KJVO statements... so, the congregation uses a variety of versions... lots of KJV, HCSB, NKJV, NIV, NASB, and a few of us ESV users (more and more of us each day!)
-
The pew Bibles are NASB and the pastor uses the NASB, but he encourages us to use a version we can understand and associate with. He encourages us to use the NKJV or the NIV. From what I have seen, most people use the NKJV with a few using the NIV.

Lack of marketing. Crossway does not have the resources that B & H, Zondervan, and Nelson have.
-
Maybe the ESV hasn't caught on because there is no demand for it in the market. People already have Bibles that they know and trust.
There is no $25 answer for many people to the question: "Why should I buy an ESV when I like and understand my "______"? -
Probably so; there is no built-in market as there is for the HCSB.
However, the ESV should get a boost when the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod adopts its new Lutheran Service Book based on the ESV and the new Lutheran Study Bible is introduced. -

The ESV is 11th on the sales list acording to the ECPA.
ECPA Best Sellers Bible translations
I guess if you don't count the Spanish version it would be 10th among English translations.
BTY the TNIV is 14th.
I have been reading the HCSB this year, because of the SBC's year of the Bible declaration. I have been using the Gideons Int. Bible reading plan. Which puts be at the begining of II Samuel and the end of Luke as of the date of this post 4/21. It is outstanding at times and weak at others. The notes are awesome! I wish it would not use Messiah in the NT exept for John chapter 1 and 4. But I like the way it uses Yaweh in the OT. :D
I teach high School Spanish I like the LBLA and Reina-Valera.
Adios!
