Does your church encourage its members to use one particular Bible translation or does each member use his/her favorite?

Our pew bibles are the KJV and NIV.
We do not encourage people to use just one version. Our members bring the bible they prefer to use.

In the south I think they are.
I recently began reading the ESV on biblegateway.com. I think it is an outstanding translation!Originally posted by EaglewingIS4031:
I think I'm the only person there who uses an ESV or has even heard of it.
Why do you think the ESV has not "caught on"?Originally posted by 4risen1:
My SBC church (5000 members) does not have any pew bibles. The pastor preaches from the KJV but has never made any KJVO statements... so, the congregation uses a variety of versions... lots of KJV, HCSB, NKJV, NIV, NASB, and a few of us ESV users (more and more of us each day!)
Good point. Perhaps "word of mouth" will suffice in the long run.Originally posted by rsr:
Probably so; there is no built-in market as there is for the HCSB.
