Any class offered and taught by a United States Army officer faces review, vetting and approval by superiors. So how is it he is the one who catches the flack? If it was so "unfair" to Islamic soldiers and the religion in general, it wouldn't have been approved. In the words of LtCOL Sherman T. Potter, "Horse-hockey!"

He replaced Col Blake who was a LTC -
Now, in the case of officers (I'm enlisted) it's a tad different, but still the same thing. If an officer wants to teach a class in an official capacity to peers/seniors, he actually only needs to get the topic approved. In a non-official capacity, or in an official capacity to subordinates, he is the approving authority.
Now, with that being said, I don't know in what capacity he was teaching this, or what he was teaching for that matter. I only have the link provided. But with a class title of "The Dangers of Radical Islam", I am going to assume that he wasn't targeting Islam in general, only radical fundamentalists. As near as I can tell from the link provided, it does appear as if he is being unfairly targeted. But in all honesty, I don't know what he was teaching, so cannot make a 100% certain call. -

* forget the exact terminology for such training -
To put forth a more relative example, this Friday we had an NCOPD (Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development), and it was a spur of the moment, find out about it 45 minutes before it happened thing. It was led by my Battalion CSM. It covered running PT, and dealing with finances, and dealing with sexual harassment/assault. (Yeah, a great combo, lol. But those are some of the prevailing problem in our geographical area.) But, it was an official training, taught to about 55 NCOs present, but it didn't have to be cleared by anyone.
Basically, the higher your rank, the less you have to clear with people in regards to classes.
Salty, don't get me wrong, I am not defending those who are seemingly persecuting him. I just wanted to clear up what someone said about all training having to get cleared by higher, as this isn't necessarily true. -
