Today, Chuck Colson:

"...don't blame the liberals. Don't blame the homosexual lobby or the media..."

"WE are at fault. We—collectively and individually—have chased after every idol the world has to offer. We have tried so hard to be relevant that we’ve become almost completely irrelevant. We offer no other way, there is nothing distinctive about us.

"We have not been what Jesus called us to be: Salt and light. We have blended in with the world so well that we are practically invisible...

"Enough of self-absorption.

Enough of going to church for self-validation—because it makes us feel good; enough of buying into the “Jesus and me” brand of Christianity that we evangelicals are especially susceptible to.

Enough of living exactly like our non-believing neighbors, glued to electronics, engaging in promiscuity and infidelity, spending beyond our means.

Enough of ignoring the suffering of the poor. Enough of being ashamed of the truth claims of the Gospel. It’s time to repent..."

It's like we're reading the same book!

This is a good commentary from Colson. You want to change the world? Start living incarnationally and with Gospel intentionality.

I'm not usually a huge Colson fan, but he is absolutely correct here.

It's not a political issue.

It's a heart issue.

The heart is wicked. We are to be seperate. You cannot lambaste Christians for chasing posessions, and give them a pass for working on secular causes.

Secular is fine. It's when they make secular into sacred that we have a problem.

There is nothing inherently wrong in secular affairs. Secular is not the opposite of sacred. The opposite of sacred is profane.

I applaud Chuck Colson for speaking up. However the message is way to weak. It does not point to specifics. The way that we dress or the lack there of, our speech ( profanity and justify or excuse it), the breaking of laws (speeding running red lights), not caring for others (talking on cell phones while driving texting while driving), what we watch and where we go, drinking and partying, and yes he did mention our spending habits. We run up debt becoming a slave to the lender. We twist truth and call it good. How many churches lie on their insurance applications about having a gymnasium by calling it a family life center or something like that to get lower rates? Most if not all! There is little wonder why the average person who claims to be a Christian sees no problem with lying and cheating today. They simply call it something else.
No longer is the word of God that which directs the average church attendees life. Chuck Colson is right. It is all about self and little about the Lord. No longer is godliness of great gains, but rather a form of it so that we can continue to live not so unlike the world. :tear:

Great words from another excuser of sin.

Great words from another excuser [sic] of sin.

No, FreePassedGas, actually I'm correct on this one. Secular is not opposed to sacred. It's all in the definition. Do you like baseball? Fine restaurants? Classical music? Your Bee Gees records? Thanksgiving holiday? Mathematics?

Then you like secular things.

The opposite of sacred is profane. Profanity isn't really bad language. Profanity is opposition to Christ's Kingdom.

Y'all are trying to create an indestructable heaven on earth. It won't happen, it isn't what we are commanded to do. It is a secular quest, and my advice is to have no part of it. And if you don't know what secular is, then it is no wonder God is so rarely glorified in your posts.

Take a look at Dr. Colson's views on abortion, the bailouts, nationalized health care, and then tell me how much you leftists admire him.

It is all right preachinjesus. He can't help it he is simply following his momma's teachings.

Hmmm...as an adult, I think I'm responsible for my own behavior. I'm not bound to follow the teaching of my mother, which by the way was to be respectful to a fault.

I apologize if there was any offense, but it's clear now that you are just trying to stir up controversy and rile people up.

The only reason you might be riled is because you cannot accept what the bible teaches. If what you say about your mother is true then you should have followed your mother's advise rather then degrade her name with unbecoming remarks. It's called faith in her teachings.

Hey can we please be respectful of one another around here? This does nothing to advance the conversation.

You're correct, you know, but it's having to listen to remarks like the following that really get old. Even if my remark wasn't in the best spirit, I don't think they're nearly as inflammatory.

There is nothing like justification. It sounds like you have come up with a good excuse, at least in your mind.

Hey man, I don't like sin. I don't excuse sin. I believe sin is horrific and betrays the very core of what we were created to be.

I'm sorry if I got ticked, and I wish you God's love and blessings and I offer you my prayers.
